Full Job Description
The Senior Systems Engineer is a hybrid technical and supervisory role responsible for leading hands-on systems engineering, infrastructure support, and operational reliability while also providing direct supervision, coaching, performance feedback, workload alignment, and professional development support of direct reports. This position oversees the daily operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of ESI's IT infrastructure, including system design, network equipment installation, system performance management, disaster recovery, business continuity, and second-tier support. The role works closely with IT staff and business partners to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology systems that support business objectives.

This is a full time in-office role, based at our headquarters in Meridian, Idaho.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operations and performance of the company's IT infrastructure, identifying and addressing any issues in real time.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, ensuring all systems are functioning efficiently and securely.
  • Assess existing IT systems and develop strategies to enhance efficiency, performance, and scalability. Propose new solutions when necessary.
  • Design system models, generate specifications, diagrams, reports, and charts for management review, and provide in-depth analyses to aid decision-making.
  • Work closely with other IT staff and business units to ensure the seamless operation of IT systems aligned with company goals.
  • Conduct server and security audits, system backups, and implement disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and system uptime.
  • Manage integration of both on-premises and cloud-based systems, including databases, email, print, and backup servers.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configuration, processes, and service records.
  • Perform cost-benefit and ROI analyses for proposed IT systems, providing valuable insights to assist in purchasing and implementation decisions.
  • Oversee testing for new and modified systems, including end-user reviews to ensure functionality and usability.
  • Engage and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure necessary system-related products and services.
  • Administer and maintain Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and user objects.
  • Provide second-tier service desk support and training for all modified and new systems, ensuring smooth user adoption and optimal system performance.
  • Monitor system performance, conduct tests, and generate performance reports to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage the performance and professional development of direct reports.
  • Maintain regular communication with direct reports through one-on-one meetings and feedback.
  • Ensure direct reports understand their responsibilities, expectations, and performance goals.


Qualifications

  • Technical degree or associate degree in Information Systems or related field with 5+ years of additional relevant experience, or 10+ years of hands-on experience in Information Systems or IT infrastructure without a formal degree.
  • Proficient in the Microsodft 365 application suite.
  • Endpoint management (e.g., Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager).
  • Identity and access management (Active Directory, Entra ID / Azure AD).
  • Virtualization and cloud platforms.
  • Backup, recovery, and cybersecurity.
  • Proficient in Terminal Services, Active Directory, Exchange, Hyper-V, SQL & Web Servers.
  • Skilled with Cisco & Meraki routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN devices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving data center infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Coach and develop direct reports to improve individual and team performance.
