Senior Systems Engineer to join our innovative, customer-focused team in
Washington, DC.Summary The
Senior Systems Engineer supervises, coordinates, designs, and implements changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, operating systems, and attached devices. This role provides day-to-day operational support, troubleshoots both the physical and logical network levels, and provides top-level technical expertise for client/server architecture, storage and backup systems, and cloud/on-premises infrastructure. As a senior-level position, this role is expected to operate independently or as a team lead and to advise management on infrastructure strategy and technology investments.
Key Responsibilities - Supervise, coordinate, design, develop, and implement additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, operating systems, and attached devices - including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new hardware and software.
- Provide day-to-day operational support for network hardware and operating systems, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring response time, and resolving operational problems.
- Troubleshoot at both the physical and logical levels of the network, including communication protocols.
- Participate in planning, design, technical review, and implementation of new network infrastructure hardware and operating systems for voice and data communications.
- Perform systems management and integration functions, demonstrating proficiency with virtualization technologies and network administration.
- Maintain network infrastructure standards, including protocols such as TCP/IP.
- Provide technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
- Diagnose and resolve complex communication problems.
- Own design, deployment, testing, certification, and patching of storage and backup systems, including all features, components, and application dependencies.
- Ensure systems remain current with approved patches; support certification and accreditation tasks; compose SOPs and quick-reference guides for users.
- Provide top-level technical expertise for the design and development of client/server environments, including strategy and infrastructure planning.
- Advise on technology purchases related to processing, data storage, data access, and application development, and set standards for client/server relational database structure.
- Advise management on the feasibility of potential future projects.
Qualification - Active Top-Secret Security Clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 7-9 years of experience in:
- Hardware and network design for large-scale enterprise applications (cloud service providers, network design/implementation, datacenter experience, network/systems administration, domain administration, virtualization platforms, SaaS, PaaS).
- Implementing and maintaining security best practices; creating and maintaining architecture, configuration, and process documentation.
- Establishing and maintaining monitoring and alerting systems for cloud and on-premises resources.
- Optimizing on-premises and cloud infrastructure for cost efficiency and performance.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to performance and availability.
- Documented and demonstrated experience troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Documented and demonstrated experience as an individual consultant or team lead.
- Software development, scripting, and programming for automation.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting large enterprise production applications.
- Performance tuning and fault finding.
- Design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
