Description
The Role
The Senior Supply Chain Manager builds the processes and technology that let FreshDirect buy and move product with less manual effort and more precision. You will standardize how every category is bought, automate replenishment in SAP, give our vendors the tools and data to perform better, and run the S&OP process and weekly availability scorecard that keep inventory, availability and launches in balance.
This is a build role as much as a running one. Much of what you need does not exist yet, and you will get to create it: the standard processes, the automation, the vendor tools and the operating rhythm that turn a manual, person-dependent purchasing process into one that scales.
What You'll Do
Buying process, automation and AI
• Drive process standardization in the buying process across categories, working with Merchandising and Supply Chain so every category follows one documented way of working
• Lead the automation of replenishment policies in SAP, executing the policy parameters set by our Demand Planning & Analytics team, and raise automation rates across the purchasing process so buyers manage by exception rather than by hand
• Identify opportunities to solve supply chain problems with AI tools, from buying and replenishment to vendor management and planning, and put the strongest ones into practice
• Set the measures for this work, including automation rate, vendor performance and flow efficiency, and report them in the weekly operating rhythm
Vendor performance
• Develop the technology and processes behind better vendor performance: automated, vendor-specific forecasts shared with suppliers, vendor portals and vendor performance dashboards
• Lead MOQ, EOQ and delivery frequency reviews with vendors, where they constrain freshness, cover or receiving capacity
Planning and flow
• Lead the S&OP process, aligning inventory levels, availability and new product launches across Merchandising, Supply Chain, Demand Planning, the plant and Finance
• Own the weekly availability scorecard, covering out-of-stock, available-to-promise, wave shortages and days on hand, published with named owners and targets set from measured baselines
• Define the strategy for optimizing inbound flow and flow between our facilities, and execute on the opportunities it identifies
What Success Looks Like
A year from now, you will have:
• Put one standard buying process in place across categories
• Materially raised the share of purchase orders generated automatically in SAP
• Launched vendor portals and performance dashboards for our largest suppliers
• Established an S&OP process and weekly availability scorecard the business relies on to plan inventory, availability and launches
What You'll bring
Required
• 6+ years in supply chain, purchasing, inventory planning or supply chain systems, ideally in grocery, food, CPG or another high-velocity environment
• Hands-on SAP experience, particularly MM and replenishment or MRP configuration, with a track record of increasing automation in a purchasing process
• Experience running or improving an S&OP process
• A track record of standardizing processes across teams that previously worked in different ways
• Experience working with vendors on performance, forecasts or ordering parameters such as MOQ and delivery frequency
• Strong analytical skills: fluent in Excel and comfortable with BI tools
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management, with internal teams and external vendors alike
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering or a related field
A plus
• Experience with perishables, fresh food or short-shelf-life categories
• Experience implementing vendor portals, vendor-managed inventory or collaborative forecasting with suppliers
• Hands-on experience applying AI tools to supply chain or operational problems
• Network or flow optimization experience across multiple facilities
• SQL, or experience with advanced planning tools alongside SAP
• Experience building a process or capability from scratch, rather than inheriting one
