Position Overview

Kiewit has an immediate opening for a Senior Structural Engineer with experience in the design and construction of dams, levees, and other hydraulic structures to support Kiewit Corporation's Dams and Water Resources business across North America. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety leadership on projects and pursuits.

The Senior Structural Engineer will lead teams in developing advanced solutions to complex structural issues; independently develop and review major designs and proposals; resolve interfaces across disciplines; and serve as a technical resource to projects, estimating, and construction. The role requires sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to direct and mentor engineers while delivering safe, constructible, and cost-effective solutions.

Location

This position is based out of our Lone Tree, Colorado office and includes travel to project offices as needed. Responsibilities
• Working on preliminary engineering designs and EPC/design-build pursuits and projects; developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables; serving as lead structural engineer and engineer of record with responsibility for design recommendations and deliverables.
• Ensuring designs are completed with consistent application of design standards, technical approaches, and in accordance with the design quality management program.
• Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) services as part of interdisciplinary pursuit teams working to develop innovative and cost-effective bid phase designs, identify key design risks, and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
• Coordinating with the Design and Project Management Team to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
• Leading the exploration of alternate designs or new technologies to challenge the status quo and provoke exploration of new or innovative design solutions. Collaborating with staff and the Engineering Project Management Team to develop work scopes and labor estimates.
• Interfacing with Clients, Construction Personnel, Subconsultants, and Regulatory Agencies.
• Fostering an environment that emphasizes collaboration and coordination; providing feedback and encouraging learning to create growth opportunities; mentoring team members.
• Leading by example with respect to safety, quality, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Supervise and oversee the work of others as required.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required. A master's degree or PhD in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience, preferably including hydropower, dams, hydraulic structures, heavy civil construction, and design-build project delivery.
• Hydraulic structures-focused experience including stability analyses; structural design of new hydraulic structures (concrete dams, hydropower stations, spillways, sluiceways, weirs, locks, levees, and related facilities); design of stability improvements to existing structures; condition assessment; structural design of repairs and refurbishments; and dam safety assessments.
• Experience working directly with contractors and construction teams through Early Contractor Involvement, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, or similar delivery models is preferred.
• Professional Engineer or equivalent registration in the applicable jurisdiction required or obtainable. An NCEES record is preferred for U.S.-based positions.
• Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated autonomy, initiative, sound judgment, and ability to prioritize work while continuously improving quality, cost, safety, and efficiency and actively seeking feedback to improve processes.
• Knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, Mathcad, or equivalent tools.
• Experience working in a team setting and directing, reviewing, or mentoring the work of engineers and designers.
• Ability to travel to project sites and offices, generally less than 25 percent, and safely access construction sites in varying climates and environmental conditions.

Base Compensation: $188,000/yr - $197,000/yr
