Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is looking for a dynamic and driven Senior Software Test Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Columbia, MD!

In this role, you'll play a key part in advancing the Minotaur Mission Processor, a cutting-edge mission management system that pulls in data from a wide array of sensors on both manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft. Minotaur helps operators track and interpret critical information from land and sea, supporting missions across every branch of the U.S. military.

As a Senior Software Test Engineer, you will be at the forefront of testing innovative prototype solutions aimed at solving some of today's most significant military operational challenges. You'll collaborate with a seasoned team known for delivering highly respected capabilities, working across a variety of technical domains. Current efforts focus on enhancing the exploitation of airborne sensor data-think object tracking, multi-sensor correlation, and intuitive, mission-ready operational displays.

You'll also take on a leadership role, guiding and mentoring junior Software Test Engineers to strengthen their skills, foster growth, and contribute to the team's continued success.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Devise and apply testing procedures for both HII's Minotaur product and from outside vendors.
  • Review software requirements and prepare test scenarios.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on requirements, product design, and potential problems.
  • Test creation, development, execution, and closure.
  • Analyze test results on database impacts, errors or bugs, and usability.
  • Perform moderately complex analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Design of both manual and automated test procedures.
  • Prepare reports on all aspects related to software testing carried out and reporting to the design team.
  • Support system integration events on various aircraft during ground/flight tests.
  • Potential to fly on aircraft to support system integration, test, and operator training
  • Willing to travel between 10-20% of the time.
  • Application of the principles, practices, and procedures used in test engineering.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • 2 - 4 years experience software testing/development in a Linux command line environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a close team environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US level Secret clearance


Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Software, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 2 - 4 years experience in:
    • leading test and test automation teams
    • network communication protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, etc.)
    • scripting in Python, Bash, CSH, etc.
    • Agile software development methodology
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply educational background to real-world engineering problems
  • Previous leadership experience in leading small software test teams
  • Active US level Secret clearance


Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family. Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
