The Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with an extensive engineering background, experience using a variety of developer tools and technologies, and a passion for developer productivity. As a leader on this team, you will care deeply about the technical development of other engineers and effectively balance the needs and priorities of the business, our users, and the growth of our engineers.

The Team

The Autonomy Build & Integration team stewards the end-to-end continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD), build, and release workflows that enable our Autonomous Driving Active Safety (ADAS) features, particularly Super Cruise. We aim to turn software changes into safe, shippable artifacts with confidence and quality. We build and operate the foundations behind application and system-on-chip image builds, CI pipelines, artifact and image management, validation benches, and release promotion workflows. Our mission is to make development faster, software better, and engineering impact stronger by improving pipeline reliability and performance, standardizing quality and compliance gates, strengthening observability, and converging our existing workflows with common build and orchestration infrastructure across AV.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Create, maintain, improve, and evolve our CI/CD processes for new and existing services to reduce manual and repetitive tasks.
  • Own robust technical projects, designs, and solutions with a focus on quality, scalability, real-time processing, and availability.
  • Lead complex projects that span teams and involve many partners and customers.
  • Effectively participate in planning, code reviews, and design discussions.
  • Contribute to impactful projects on the team’s roadmap.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment where impact is a result of your efforts and your contribution is highly visible.
  • Drive software engineering best practices both within our team and across engineering, and create tooling that encourages and supports these practices.
  • Mentor and up-level other engineers on the team.
  • Conduct technical interviews using well-calibrated standards and play a crucial role in recruiting activities.
  • Be a positive contributor to our team culture.
  • Travel as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience leading and driving large-scale, cross-team initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience developing workflows and managing CI/CD platforms such as Buildkite, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience working with developer tooling and technologies such as Python and Docker.
  • Experience with build systems such as Bazel or CMake, and with compilers such as Clang, GCC, and NVCC.
  • Experience leading projects across multiple teams.
  • Attention to detail and a desire to improve the processes and systems around you.
  • Deep understanding of the business and operational impacts of different technology trade-offs.
  • Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
  • Strong understanding of major automotive vehicle systems, such as Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Networks, and Powertrain.
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols (Ethernet/CAN/LIN).
  • Experience with SAFe and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience working with globally distributed teams.
  • Experience with the QNX OS and the QCC build toolchain.
  • Experience with an Adaptive AUTOSAR service-based vehicle platform.
  • Experience with unit-testing tools, such as CppUTest and GoogleTest, and their respective Jenkins plugins.
