Full Job Description
Portal, part of Roblox's Engine Productivity team, builds productivity tools for the hundreds of engineers developing Roblox's game engine, desktop clients, apps, and Roblox Studio. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build the systems that bring AI agents into engine development workflows. On a small team with broad reach, you will help decide where AI can meaningfully improve engineering productivity and take solutions from early experiments to reliable tools engineers use every day.

You will:
  • Own improvements to developer workflows, from identifying problems with engineers to designing and shipping productivity tools and measuring their impact.
  • Build AI agent sandboxes and harnesses written in C and Rust, along with the integrations and context agents needed to work effectively in Roblox's C++ game engine codebase.
  • Partner with technical leaders across Roblox's Engine and Infrastructure groups to deliver reliable tools and improve the daily experience of engineering at Roblox.

You have:
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience working on projects from 0 to 1.
  • Experience owning substantial parts of a developer tool or system through design, launch, and ongoing operation.
  • Systems programming experience in C, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience with or interest in Web technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript and/or React is a huge plus
  • Interest in AI-powered developer tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Pi.
  • The ability to turn ambiguous developer needs into practical solutions, work independently, and learn unfamiliar tools and systems.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.


For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$196,750-$243,290 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
