The RoleWe are looking for a senior software engineer to help build the platform enterprises use to understand and govern their AI agents.
We use a variety of technologies across the Java, Python, Node and Rust ecosystems, alongside cloud-native infrastructure in AWS. We make heavy use of agents in our day-to-day work and dogfood our own product extensively.
Our engineering culture takes influence from Extreme Programming: collaborative by default, close to customers, iterating in small steps, and shipping at a swift but sustainable pace. We pair often, share ownership of what we build, and lean on automated tests and observability so we can keep moving without breaking what we have already shipped.
What You'll Do- Build and ship product improvements that solve real customer problems.
- Work across the backend and frontend, learning new parts of the stack as needed.
- Work directly with customers and the go-to-market team to understand needs and unblock progress.
- Design and iterate on solutions with designers, other engineers, stakeholders, and customers.
- Improve the systems behind the product: champion refactors and rework where needed, reduce operational toil, automate what you can and simplify workflows.
- Own the reliability of what you ship through good instrumentation, observability, and meaningful alerting.
- Improve the infrastructure, delivery pipelines, and automation that let us ship safely and often.
- Help shape the technical direction of the product, platform, and engineering team.
- Explore how agents are changing software development, operations, and risk alongside the rest of the team.
- Take part in a shared on-call and in-hours support rota, working with the rest of the team to respond to incidents and improve things afterwards.
Behaviours We Are Looking For- You care deeply about customer outcomes and take responsibility for making sure what you build actually helps.
- You are calm, curious, and methodical when working through unfamiliar problems.
- You value technical quality, testing, observability, and automation, while staying pragmatic about what needs to be built now.
- You enjoy working closely with other people. You are comfortable pairing, thinking out loud, giving and receiving feedback, and being wrong.
- You learn quickly and look for better ways to work, both for yourself and for the team.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and know how to turn it into clarity.
What You Bring- You are fluent in at least one of Java, Python, TypeScript, or Rust, or a similar language, and can get productive quickly and comfortably in an unfamiliar codebase.
- You have delivered significant production software, both greenfield and within existing systems.
- You have been on call for something that mattered, debugged it under pressure, and improved it afterwards.
- You understand how to build secure software and recognise common vulnerabilities.
- You are comfortable with cloud infrastructure - ours is AWS - including infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and containers.
- You know what useful observability looks like: meaningful metrics, logs, traces, and alerts.
- You are comfortable taking ownership in a fast-moving environment where the product, processes, and tooling are still evolving.
- You use AI agents as part of your work, whether for pairing, automation, or workflow orchestration, and you know when they are useful and when they are not.
Why This RoleAI agents are changing how companies operate, and the question of how to govern them safely is only going to become more important. Geordie is building the platform enterprises rely on to answer that question.
You will work in a problem space that is still being defined, alongside customers who are figuring it out at the same time we are. You will ship real things to real users every week, work closely with people you can learn from, and help shape both the product and the way an early-stage company chooses to build software.
