Full Job Description
We are building the next generation of InfluxDB, a high-performance time series database. This includes columnar storage, a DataFusion-based query engine, and data transformation pipelines. This team works alongside our platform team to build a distributed, cloud-native database that is highly available and scalable.
We are seeking a highly skilled senior engineer with strong experience in both a systems programming language and in distributed systems or database systems. Our team is 100% distributed and remote, and we are looking for someone who is comfortable working with fast-moving requirements and a high degree of autonomy. On-call is required for this role.
What you'll be working on
Design and implement new features for InfluxDB 3. Current areas of ownership include Import/Export, Data Transformation Pipelines (the Processing Engine), and WebUI integration.
Debug and fix issues, including performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and other production issues.
Work directly with the platform team to improve the operational aspects of InfluxDB 3, including monitoring, alerting, and observability.
Be part of a production on-call rotation, triaging and debugging issues as they arise.
What we're looking for
8+ years of professional software experience
Deep knowledge of at least one of Rust, C++, or Go (Rust preferred)
Experience building high-throughput, low-latency systems in a distributed environment
Experience with high-availability, fault-tolerant systems
Proficiency in working closely with product managers, sales, and support to understand customer needs and translate them into technical requirements
Demonstrated the ability to use AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows. You can critique, validate, and refine AI-generated output
It's a plus if you have
Experience with Python, the language for Processing Engine plugins
Experience with WebAssembly, our runtime for embedding the frontend in the database
Knowledge of consensus protocols and distributed databases
