Full Job Description
Are you an experienced peptide scientist looking for an opportunity to take on a senior technical role, work on complex projects and help shape the future of peptide development?
At Biosynth, we're looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Peptide Division. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in peptide synthesis, purification and characterisation who enjoys combining hands-on laboratory work with technical leadership, problem-solving and customer interaction.
Working closely with our Principal Lab Technicians and wider peptide team, you'll play an important role in delivering complex peptide projects, supporting and developing colleagues and introducing new peptide-related technologies and capabilities to the business.
What you'll be doing
Take a leading role in the synthesis, purification and characterisation of peptides, working on both routine and complex projects.
Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to laboratory technicians and peptide scientists, supporting the development of the wider team.
Support colleagues with technical decision-making and troubleshooting on more challenging peptide projects.
Identify opportunities to improve laboratory processes, working practices and team capabilities.
Operate and utilise peptide synthesis, purification and characterisation instrumentation.
Carry out on-resin and solution-phase modifications of custom peptides.
Perform peptide cleavage data analysis and peptide characterisation using UPLC-MS.
Help introduce and implement new peptide-related modalities at Biosynth, including their synthesis and characterisation.
Work alongside the department supervisor to coordinate project activity, track progress and support the allocation of laboratory work.
Build relationships with customers and potential customers, discussing project requirements and providing technical input throughout ongoing projects.
Represent Biosynth at conferences and customer events, promoting our peptide capabilities.
Collaborate with peptide teams across Biosynth, sharing knowledge and supporting wider business development.
What we're looking for
You'll bring a strong scientific background and the technical experience to operate confidently at a senior level within a peptide laboratory.
Requirements include -
A PhD in Life Sciences, such as Biology, Chemistry or an equivalent discipline.
Demonstrable experience in peptide synthesis, purification and characterisation.
A strong chemistry background and the ability to apply your knowledge to complex peptide projects.
Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues.
Strong communication skills, with the confidence to interact with customers and discuss technical projects.
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking ownership of your own work.
A proactive approach to continuous improvement and developing both yourself and others.
A strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning and developing new capabilities.
