Our Newest Opportunity: The Senior Revenue Accountant is a hands-on role on the Property & Casualty (P&C) Accounting team, reporting to the Division Controller, VP Finance. The position is split between core accounting and revenue operations, supporting the P&C month-end close through data from the Agency Management System (AMS). The ideal candidate pairs a solid accounting foundation with a genuine interest in how the business works and serves as a trusted resource for Finance leaders on revenue results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Revenue Operations & AMS Data Management- Develop a deep, working understanding of the Company's P&C insurance revenue stream and how policy, premium, and commission activity is recorded in the Agency Management System (AMS)
- Run and extract month-end AMS reports with high-volume transaction data; validate completeness and accuracy, and translate raw data into meaningful, reconcilable results
- Prepare the monthly accounts receivable files in Excel from AMS data, ensuring balances tie to both the system and the general ledger
- Own and maintain the comprehensive monthly revenue recognition workbook, estimating and accruing revenue at a detailed level to specific P&Ls
- Own the supporting schedules that underpin revenue-related journal entries and account reconciliations, keeping them accurate, well-documented, and audit-ready
- Partner with local offices and operations teams to investigate revenue discrepancies, resolve data issues at the source, and communicate required accounting adjustments
Month-End Close & Accounting- Prepare and record month-end journal entries for revenue, AR, and related accounts in accordance with the close calendar
- Reconcile AR and other revenue-related balance sheet accounts monthly, ensuring all reconciling items are investigated and resolved timely
- Perform monthly variance analyses (e.g., actual vs. prior period, budget, and forecast) and clearly explain the drivers behind fluctuations
Cash Reconciliation- Assist with post-close cash reconciliations by comparing receipts and withdrawals recorded in the AMS to bank transaction detail in the general ledger
- Identify and research variances between the AMS and the general ledger, and drive reconciling items to resolution with operations and Finance partners
Business Partnership & Reporting- Serve as a go-to resource for Finance leaders, answering questions about revenue recordings, results, and variances with clear, data-backed explanations
- Partner with Regional Finance Leaders to provide relevant reporting and insights that support organic revenue growth
Audit, Controls & Process Improvement- Support the annual external audit by preparing requested documentation, schedules, and explanations
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate reporting and reconciliation workflows, and help develop and implement new procedures that improve accuracy and efficiency
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:- Genuine curiosity about how the business operates, with the drive to understand the "why" behind the numbers, not just the entries
- Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to work in large, complex datasets, spot anomalies, and draw accurate conclusions
- High attention to detail and accuracy when working with high-volume transactional data under close deadlines
- Solid working knowledge of core accounting concepts, including debits and credits, accruals, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Ability to explain financial and operational data clearly, verbally and in writing, to Finance leaders and non-accounting stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to own recurring month-end deliverables and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to make accurate, independent decisions based on available data, and sound judgment on when to escalate
Education, Training and Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2-5 years of accounting or finance experience, ideally in a role with significant operational, revenue, or high-volume transactional data responsibilities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, including working with large datasets, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, pivot tables, and building multi-tab linked workbooks; Power Query experience a plus
- Experience with an insurance Agency Management System preferred; Applied Epic experience strongly preferred
- Experience with insurance brokerage, agency, or P&C operations highly desired
Your base pay is dependent upon your skills, education, qualifications, professional experience, and location.
