As a Senior Resource Planner, you will help evaluate the generation portfolio and assist with resource decisions that will shape Associated's power supply for years to come.
This position combines power system modeling, economics, data analysis and strategic decision support. The Senior Resource Planner will evaluate complex questions involving generation resources, load, fuel, wholesale markets, emerging technologies and financial risk and turn that analysis into recommendations supporting significant business decisions.
The ideal candidate will bring electric utility or energy industry experience and established expertise in the area of resource planning. This is a senior technical contributor role with significant independence and responsibility for leading complex analytical projects.
What You'll Do- Support development of Associated's Integrated Resource Plan, including evaluation of future resource needs
- Develop generation and energy modeling used in long-range financial forecasts, cost-of-service studies, portfolio analysis and other major planning efforts.
- Provide analytical support for generation investments, plant modifications, power supply contracts and other significant business decisions.
- Develop and improve analytical tools, models and processes used for resource planning and decision support.
- Collaborate with power production, energy marketing, fuels, finance, accounting, transmission, information services and other groups throughout Associated.
- Management of project scope, schedules, and coordination with leadership
- Packaging of results including technical writing and presentations intended for audiences without technical planning expertise

- Bachelor's degree in engineering or another related technical field.
- Typically 5+ years of relevant experience in electric utility planning, generation planning, power markets, quantitative analysis or a related area.
- Track record of continued growth in technical capabilities and job responsibilities.
- Experience independently performing complex, non-routine quantitative or technical analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred- Advanced degree in engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of electric utility generation, resource planning, wholesale energy markets or closely related areas.
- Experience with production-cost or capacity-expansion modeling software.
- Experience evaluating generation investments, power supply contracts or long-term portfolio alternatives.
- Experience with statistical, stochastic or financial modeling.
- Experience developing analytical tools or automating planning processes on large datasets using tools such as Excel, SQL, or Databricks.
