JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Regulatory Specialist leads environmental permitting and agency coordination for complex Alaska projects, with a strong emphasis on mining developments and associated infrastructure. This client-facing role develops permitting strategies, identifies approval pathways and risks, manages applications and schedules, and aligns engineering and environmental input. It requires sound judgment and comfort working directly with senior and executive-level technical specialists. The specialist may also mentor staff and review work products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Lead permitting strategy and execution for large, complex projects, particularly mining developments and related facilities and infrastructure

Develop permit inventories, requirements matrices, agency engagement plans, and schedules; identify dependencies and critical-path approvals

Manage permit applications, supporting analyses, agency responses, and compliance documentation; align technical inputs with project design and regulatory requirements

Coordinate environmental review and consultation processes, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and applicable federal, state, and local authorizations

Engage with State of Alaska and Federal agencies

Serve as a primary regulatory contact for clients; lead meetings, explain permitting options and risks, and track commitments

Work independently with senior and executive-level subject matter experts, engineers, environmental specialists, and subcontractors

Manage scope, budgets, schedules, and quality of regulatory deliverables

Support ACES' zero-incident safety culture

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resources, engineering, geology, or a related field

At least eight years of relevant professional experience in environmental permitting, regulatory affairs, or environmental consulting

Experience permitting mining projects is strongly preferred, especially projects involving related infrastructure and multiple agencies

Demonstrated ability to develop permitting strategies, manage complex permit packages, and translate technical project information into clear regulatory submissions

Working knowledge of Alaska state and federal environmental and land use permitting processes, including agency consultation and environmental review

Ability to coordinate with engineering teams as designs change and identify permitting gaps and risks

Strong writing, analytical, problem-solving, and professional communication skills, including the ability to brief clients and facilitate agency meetings

Ability to work autonomously, prioritize competing deadlines, and take ownership of client-facing work while collaborating across disciplines

Willingness to travel within Alaska for site visits and project or agency meetings as needed

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have its own accommodation and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and work environment requirements outlined below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. A post-offer, pre-hire Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to ensure an employee's ability to safely meet job standards.
