Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Red Hat Linux Platform Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team responsible for designing, engineering, automating, and continuously improving the enterprise Linux platform supporting critical banking and business applications. This role was adapted from the organization's AIX operations position and refocused toward platform engineering and automation.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), enterprise automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Ansible development, security engineering, and platform modernization.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Linux Platform Engineering
  • Design, engineer, and implement enterprise Red Hat Linux platform solutions supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Develop platform standards, engineering patterns, and architectural best practices.
  • Engineer highly available, resilient, and scalable Linux infrastructure solutions.
  • Lead platform modernization, operating system lifecycle management, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging Linux technologies and identify opportunities for platform enhancement.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture teams to establish long-term Linux platform strategy.

Infrastructure Automation & Ansible Engineering
  • Serve as a lead engineer for enterprise automation initiatives.
  • Design, develop, test, maintain, and optimize enterprise-scale Ansible automation solutions.
  • Create and maintain reusable Ansible roles, playbooks, collections, templates, and automation workflows.
  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code standards and automation governance processes.
  • Build automated server provisioning, operating system configuration, patching, compliance remediation, and application deployment solutions.
  • Integrate Ansible with CI/CD pipelines and enterprise platforms.
  • Implement automated configuration drift detection and remediation capabilities.
  • Establish code review, testing, source control, and release management processes for infrastructure automation.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Engineering
  • Engineer and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments across production, development, testing, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Design and manage operating system standards, hardening baselines, and configuration management frameworks.
  • Lead Linux platform upgrades, version migrations, and technology modernization efforts.
  • Engineer solutions utilizing:

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • Red Hat Satellite
    • Red Hat Identity Management (IdM)
    • Podman
    • Systemd
    • SELinux
    • LVM
    • Multipathing
  • Optimize platform performance, scalability, and reliability.

Security Engineering & Compliance
  • Engineer secure-by-design Linux platform solutions.
  • Develop Ansible-based security hardening and compliance automation.
  • Implement automated vulnerability remediation and security configuration management processes.
  • Ensure platform designs support compliance requirements including:
    • FFIEC
    • PCI-DSS
    • SOX
    • NIST
    • CIS Benchmarks
    • Enterprise Information Security Standards

Qualifications: Minimum Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree and 8 years' experience OR High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent and 12 years' experience in Systems engineer including systems programmer, scripting, troubleshootingBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Quaifications
  • 10+ years of enterprise Linux administration and engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
  • Expert-level knowledge of:
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9)
    • Red Hat Satellite
    • Linux performance tuning and troubleshooting
    • Storage management and LVM
    • Kernel and OS lifecycle management
    • Linux networking and security
  • Advanced shell scripting experience (Bash, KornShell, and Shell).
    Strong Python development skills for automation and tooling.
  • Experience with:
    • Git-based source control
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies
    • Enterprise storage platforms
    • Disaster recovery architectures
    • Capacity and performance engineering
    • Enterprise monitoring and observability tools
  • Experience supporting highly regulated organizations, preferably banking or financial services.
