Responsibilities

  • Gather manufacturing, quality, and engineering information for optimal customer proposals.
  • Conduct cost estimation during the development cycle according to APQP procedures.
  • Manage new tooling and fixture builds through the APQP process, overseeing mechanical design and tool program management.
  • Update engineering documentation and standards in response to engineering change requests.
  • Propose opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction annually.
  • Establish and uphold standard processes in collaboration with manufacturing personnel to meet customer expectations.
  • Develop all quality plans for production parts and lead the team in document completion.

SUMMARY

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for managing the introduction of new projects through various stages, managing future engineering changes, assisting in resolving any manufacturing issues associated with the tools, and implementing continuous improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Obtain information from the appropriate manufacturing, quality, internal engineering, and purchasing to provide the optimum proposal to the customer.
  • Perform all cost estimating functions during the development cycle using established APQP procedures, establish all standards for each job, from material to process to production.
  • Place all new tooling & fixture builds through MPM's APQP process and be responsible for all mechanical design functions and tooling program management. Schedule all samples and provide support at all stages of the process. Communicate and document pertinent set-up and processing information to molding technicians.
  • Update routings, BOM's and BOO's to reflect engineering change requests; oversee updating of engineering print files & revisions to engineering prints, as well as reviewing and updating standards for accuracy and reducing manufacturing variances.
  • Provide proposals for annual continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Interact with manufacturing personnel to establish standard processes to ensure customer expectations are being met, and to provide ongoing support for production requirements.
  • Establishes all quality plans for each part (FMEA's, Control Plans, Work Instructions, Work Cell Layouts and PPAP's) and works as team leader with manufacturing & QA to obtain completed documents.
  • Strives to obtain continuous education & maintenance of high level of education related to current and new tooling, machinery, materials, and processing.
  • Travel to customer and vendor locations or other McDonald Plastic Molding facilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University, in Engineering or Industrial Technologies, plus 3-5 years of relevant experience working in a manufacturing environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Have a clear understanding of the injection molding process for thermoplastic materials.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within a team environment that emphasizes collaborative decision making and coordination between multiple functions both inside the business and at the corporate level.
  • Experience with Mold Flow, mold design, and DFM a plus.
  • Experience in Engineering Project Management, PMP a plus
  • Experience using Creo, Solidworks, or similar CAD/CAM software a plus.
  • Experience reading and interpreting 2D part prints with associated GD&T.
  • Must have a record that demonstrates customer focus, strategic thinking, results driven, and problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
