Full Job Description
The Senior Design Engineer is a key contributor to the development of high-quality construction documents. This role supports project supervisors and teams by producing complete, accurate, and thorough CAD drawings in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and Interplan standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, proactive, and committed to mentoring and supporting Design Engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Produce complete, accurate, and thorough CAD drawings in accordance with project direction and Interplan standards.
  • Review, redline, and correct your own work before advancing drawings for team review.
  • Coordinate drawings and project requirements with architects, consultants, and other disciplines.
  • Participate in project discussions with architects, clients, and internal project teams.
  • Research applicable building codes and assist with incorporating requirements into construction documents.
  • Assist supervisors with administrative tasks, project coordination, code research, and limited construction administration activities.
  • Incorporate contractor and owner change directives into project drawings and documentation.
  • Review and implement changes resulting from building department comments.
  • Prepare building department comment responses and related correspondence, including inspection letters and owner letters, as required.
  • Oversee, train, guide, and support Design Engineers in their project work and professional growth.
  • Help maintain and uphold Interplan's standards for drawing quality, consistency, accuracy, and client service.
  • Participate in the creation and refinement of drawing prototypes, standards, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Seek feedback and guidance regularly and engage supervisors or senior-level resources when additional support is needed.
  • Share ideas, innovations, and recommendations with supervisors to support continuous improvement.
  • Work effectively with a variety of project management and leadership styles.
  • Follow up promptly on project-related issues and communicate effectively with internal teams, consultants, clients, and other project stakeholders.

Qualifications & Prior Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, design, or a related field preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software and strong technical drawing skills required.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, permitting requirements, and construction-documentation processes.

  • Construction administration experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
