Senior Production Planner, Fabrication is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the detailed fabrication production schedule within an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) manufacturing environment. The role balances capacity, material, and engineering readiness to keep fabricated components flowing on time to Assembly.
This role serves as the primary planning liaison between Fabrication, Engineering, Supply Chain, Programming, and the Assembly Planning team and owns fabrication jobs from release through completion.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesFabrication Scheduling & Execution- Translate the 12-week assembly production plan into a detailed fabrication schedule by resource and work center, and maintain it as priority, capacity, and material availability change.
- Sequence and level-load work to optimize fabrication resources and ensure components are completed on time to support Assembly.
- Monitor shop-floor progress, open jobs, and WIP against the schedule, adjusting priorities as needed.
- Own fabrication performance metrics, including schedule attainment, on-time delivery to Assembly, and WIP levels.
Fabrication Job Ownership- Manage the full job lifecycle, including job release, material issuance, component receipt, and timely job closure.
- Maintain accurate job dates, schedules, quantities, and production data within Epicor.
Capacity & Constraint Management- Proactively identify bottlenecks and constraints (capacity, workload, material, programming, and engineering readiness) and coordinate cross-functional actions to resolve them.
- Escalate risks to production commitments and recommend recovery or mitigation plans when needed.
Cross-Functional Planning & Communication- Coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, Programming, Quality, and Project Management to support fabrication execution.
- Manage and communicate the scheduling impact of engineering changes, customer revisions, material shortages, and production disruptions.
- Lead daily and weekly fabrication scheduling reviews.
Continuous Improvement- Identify opportunities to improve fabrication flow, resource utilization, schedule adherence, and planning processes.
- Drive the development and standardization of production planning and scheduling processes.
- Mentor planners and schedulers and serve as subject-matter expert for fabrication planning in Epicor.
Required Skills and Experience- Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Advanced ERP/MRP proficiency with a strong understanding of BOM structures, routings,production scheduling, and capacity planning.
- Experience coordinating across Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make effective decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production scheduling tools.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in an Engineer-to-Order (ETO), Make-to-Order (MTO), or project-based manufacturing environment.
- Epicor ERP experience.
- APICS CPIM or CSCP certification.
