Full Job Description

Company: Mott is a technology-driven, high-precision filtration company trusted by the world’s best technical and performance brands across four core markets: Medicine, Computing Power, Clean Energy, and Space Exploration. Our products can be found everywhere…including lifesaving medical devices, artificial intelligence, and missions to Mars!
The company’s strategic vision is to deliver technological breakthroughs where none currently exist. Established in 1959 and located in Farmington, Connecticut (90 miles from NYC and Boston), Mott is poised for significant growth over the next 5 years.

Senior Process Engineer Profile

Mission of the Position: Provide technical leadership for complex manufacturing processes and cross-functional initiatives that expand capability, accelerate reliable production scaling, and improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The Senior Process Engineer serves as a recognized subject-matter expert who leads high-impact work, establishes engineering standards, mentors others, and influences decisions across value streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the technical performance and long-term capability of assigned processes or technologies, serving as the primary engineering authority for complex issues and critical decisions.

  • Lead cross-functional projects from concept through production implementation, including scope definition, technical risk assessment, schedule, budget, resource coordination, validation, and sustained handoff to Operations.

  • Develop advanced process designs, operating windows, control strategies, and qualification plans that meet customer, regulatory, quality, and business requirements.

  • Lead complex root-cause investigations and corrective actions using rigorous data analysis, experimentation, and statistical methods; ensure countermeasures are effective, documented, and institutionalized.

  • Direct design-for-manufacturability reviews and production-scaling activities for new products, new technologies, and high-risk process changes.

  • Identify, justify, and implement capital equipment and automation solutions, including specifications, supplier evaluation, safety reviews, installation, commissioning, validation, training, and performance ramp-up.

  • Establish and improve engineering standards, best practices, process documentation, and knowledge-management methods across the assigned area.

  • Mentor Process Engineers, technicians, and production personnel; provide technical review, coaching, and structured training that builds organizational capability.

  • Influence cross-functional priorities and communicate technical risks, trade-offs, recommendations, project status, and business impact to leadership and other stakeholders.

  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives that materially improve throughput, capability, reliability, quality, safety, lead time, and cost across one or more manufacturing areas.

  • Represent Process Engineering in customer, supplier, audit, and technical discussions when advanced process expertise or risk-based decisions are required.

  • Anticipate future capacity, capability, equipment, and workforce needs and translate them into practical technical roadmaps and prioritized improvement plans.

Major Challenges

  • Balancing urgent production needs with strategic process development, capital projects, and capability expansion.

  • Resolving high-consequence technical problems in complex or insufficiently characterized processes while protecting safety, quality, and customer commitments.

  • Aligning stakeholders with competing priorities and influencing decisions without relying on direct authority.

  • Transferring specialized knowledge, developing successors, and establishing standards that reduce dependence on individual expertise.

  • Adapting technical roadmaps as business forecasts, customer requirements, technology, and operational constraints evolve.

Expected Performance Outcomes

  • Be recognized as a subject-matter expert for assigned processes or technologies and a trusted technical advisor across functions.

  • Deliver major engineering projects and process transfers on time, within approved budget, and with documented safety, quality, capability, and operational-readiness results.

  • Establish durable standards, controls, and training that improve process ownership and reduce recurring issues.

  • Develop the capability and independence of engineers, technicians, and production teams through mentorship, technical review, and knowledge transfer.

  • Generate measurable year-over-year gains in throughput, reliability, lead time, quality, and cost, including contribution to the goal of enabling safe production at 100% quality while reducing average cost per piece by 5% annually.

  • Identify and address emerging technical and capacity risks before they disrupt customer or business commitments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline; an advanced degree is a plus.

  • Seven or more years of progressive process, manufacturing, industrial, or related engineering experience in a high-precision, regulated, or advanced manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated ownership of complex processes or technologies and successful leadership of cross-functional projects from concept through production release.

  • Advanced proficiency in structured problem-solving, FMEA, control plans, process capability, statistical analysis, validation, and Lean or Six Sigma methods.

  • Proven experience with manufacturing routes, bills of material, process detail sheets, standard work, production-readiness deliverables, and engineering change control.

  • Experience specifying, justifying, commissioning, validating, and scaling capital equipment, tooling, fixtures, or automation.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor technical staff, lead through influence, communicate with senior stakeholders, and make risk-based engineering decisions.

  • Experience in powder processing, compaction, sintering, filtration, fabrication, machining, welding, high-temperature processing, or another relevant advanced-manufacturing technology is preferred.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or comparable continuous-improvement certification is preferred.
