RESPONSIBILITIES:- Strategic Data Architecture Design:
- Define and maintain enterprise data architecture strategy for data acquisition, archive recovery and database implementation
- Design scalable and secure data models, data flows, and integration patterns across the AWS and Databricks Lakehouse ecosystem.
- Align data architecture with business objectives and IT strategy.
- Data Governance & Quality:
- Establish data governance frameworks and best practices.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulations (e.g., GDPR).
- Ensure proper management and documentation of metadata, including data dictionaries, to support data discovery and understanding.
- Collaboration & Technical Leadership:
- Communicate data architecture strategies, decisions, and best practices to stakeholders at all levels, influencing their understanding and adoption.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data teams
- Supervise and review the work of contractors and third-party resources to ensure alignment with architectural standards and quality expectations.
- Influence and advocate for data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Technology & Innovation:
- Evaluate and recommend data technologies, tools, and platforms, with an emphasis on AWS-native services and the Databricks Lakehouse Platform (e.g., Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL).
- Actively leverage generative AI tools (e.g., AI-assisted code generation, data modeling, and documentation) to accelerate delivery, in line with the company's expectation that technical staff incorporate Gen AI into their daily workflow.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data architecture and analytics.
- Project Oversight:
- Lead data architecture efforts in large-scale projects and digital transformations, personally hands-on in designing and building data models and pipelines to set the technical standard for the team.
- Ensure data solutions are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:- 10+ years of data engineering or data architecture
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Experienced in data engineering best practices including data profiling, sourcing, and cleansing routines utilizing typical data quality functions involving standardization, transformation, rationalization, linking and matching
- Proven track record of designing and implementing data models and warehouses using modern data modeling methodologies (e.g., dimensional/star schema, Data Vault, Kimball) in a lakehouse environment
- In-depth understanding of database structure principles and experience working on different types of databases and data warehouse technologies
- Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques
- Proficient in SQL and Python, with the ability to translate complexity into efficient code
- Hands-on experience with Databricks Workflows, AWS Glue, and/or Apache Airflow for orchestrating data pipelines
- Building data models and dashboards using Databricks SQL and/or Power BI
- Deep, hands-on experience with the Databricks Lakehouse Platform, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Databricks SQL
- Extensive working knowledge of AWS services including S3, EMR, EKS, Glue, Redshift, and Lambda
- Structured thinking with the ability to break down ambiguous problems and propose impactful data modeling designs
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to use data to inform decision making and drive outcomes
- Ability to understand, document and convert business requirements into data models
- Ability to work effectively with a remote team across multiple time zones, and in an Agile environment
- Ability to mentor and develop data engineers at all levels
- Driven and self-motivated with excellent organizational skills
- Genuine passion about technology and solving data problems
- Comfortable learning innovative technologies and systems
- Proactive in leveraging generative AI tools to accelerate data modeling, coding, and documentation work
- Proven ability to proactively communicate and facilitate updates for ongoing projects, issues, and major deliverables to management and other stakeholders.
Compensation for this role will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and market considerations. The anticipated compensation range for this position is -
170,000-180,000 USD- annually. In addition to base compensation, eligible employees may be offered other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, commissions, equity, or other incentive programs, where applicable. Compensation and benefits may vary by location and are subject to applicable legal, business, and market requirements.
