About the Role
We're modernizing the software foundations behind ComPsych's products — building shared backend capabilities, cloud-native services, and AWS infrastructure that application teams can rely on. Our goal is to make secure, reliable, high-quality software easier to build and operate at scale, without each team having to solve the same engineering problems independently.
AI isn't a productivity add-on here — it's how we build. Our engineers use agentic development as standard equipment, moving from problem to production-ready code faster than traditional development allows, while keeping the work reviewable and maintainable. Our platform carries behavioral health data for millions of members, so reliability and correctness are non-negotiable — not a tax on velocity.
What You'll Do
AI changes what your time goes toward. You're still accountable for the full lifecycle — planning, design, code, tests, review, production — but your hands-on role in each shifts:
- Design and build shared platform capabilities. Own the architecture and delivery of reusable backend services, libraries, frameworks, and integrations that application teams depend on — with clear interfaces, failure modes, and operational contracts.
- Make AWS infrastructure usable through software. Build the application-level abstractions, automation, and integration patterns that let teams use cloud services securely and reliably without solving the same infrastructure problems repeatedly.
- Direct implementation rather than writing it line by line. Decompose platform work, write specifications and contracts, and delegate implementation to AI agents — stepping into code when complexity, debugging, or technical judgment demands it.
- Engineer for reuse, compatibility, and testability. Design for multiple consumers, backward compatibility, safe migrations, and verifiable behavior. Own the testing strategy and validate that generated tests provide meaningful evidence.
- Build reliability, security, and observability into the platform. Establish defaults for authentication, authorization, failure handling, telemetry, and deployment safety that improve every service built on the platform.
- Own production outcomes and platform adoption. Review agent and human work with the same rigor, respond to incidents, and work with consuming teams to make shared capabilities practical to adopt and operate.
What We're Looking For
- Deep server-side engineering experience in Java, Python, C#, Kotlin, or Go. You've designed and operated backend systems and built reusable components that other engineers depend on.
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals — API and event contracts, asynchronous messaging, concurrency, idempotency, consistency, failure handling, and versioning across independently deployed services.
- Hands-on AWS experience designing and operating production workloads — including compute, networking, storage, databases, messaging, IAM, and the tradeoffs among managed services. Comfortable with containers, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
- Experience building shared backend foundations — service frameworks, common libraries, authentication and authorization, integration layers, or similar capabilities — with deliberate attention to compatibility, configuration, documentation, and adoption.
- Reliability and security engineering experience in production — observability, SLOs, incident response, resilient architectures, and secure handling of sensitive or regulated data.
- A testing strategy appropriate for shared platform software — unit, integration, contract, and compatibility testing, with reliable CI feedback and confidence that changes won't break downstream consumers.
- Agentic AI is your primary development surface. You can specify complex platform work, direct agents to implement it, and verify correctness across integrations, edge cases, and operational behavior. You've shipped production software this way and can identify where human judgment is essential.
Compensation and Benefits
