Title:

Role Overview: KBR is seeking an Aerospace Physiologist to conduct literature reviews and summarize previous research concerning the impacts of high altitude and high gravitational forces on human performance, using analog and multi-modal research methods.  The Aerospace Physiologist will be responsible for assisting in developing original solutions to research problems/study questions; assisting in preparing research proposals, funding requests, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols; planning and managing human subject experiment project execution; collecting and analyzing human subject data in accordance with IRB-approved protocols; summarizing and interpreting project results; presenting research results to other research staff and stakeholders; assisting in writing research papers, reports, reviews and summaries; attending project meetings, seminars and other meetings as necessary. Physiologists are expected to stay abreast of relevant developments in science and research, particularly as applied to the Air Force operational domain. Must maintain active scientific and professional networks by identifying and connecting with experts and key opinion leaders and participating and presenting at relevant conferences and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Provide Aerospace Physiologist on Duty observations and medical support during training and research altitude and centrifuge events.
• Provide introductory and orientation physiology training for individuals interested in joining the human subject research panels.
• Conduct advanced altitude and centrifuge research to support projects.
• Develop and implement technical solutions aligned with project objectives.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and project managers to integrate operational insights into broader programs.
• Assist in preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and client use.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards in all technical work.
• Provide technical input to develop, execute and/or oversee procedures for test subject panel training and data collection, ensuring proficiency to maintain adequate population and readiness of the subject panels to support RDT&E projects.
• For all projects ensure compliance with applicable Federal, DoD, military services and organizations, and civilian institutions directives regarding human subject research and commensurate subjects protections.
• Ensure compliance for all activities regarding safeguarding of personally identifiable information and protected health information.
• Perform or assist with physiological consultation and training services.
• Monitor and measure test subject response to extreme physiological environments (e.g., low pressure/hypobaric, acceleration, thermal), physical and cognitive training, nutrition, diet supplementation and similar protocols to draw conclusions about human performance.
• Participate in the processing and interpretation of experimental and test data.
• Coordinate with other technical and professional staff.
• Prepare written reports acceptable for publication in scientific journals and present research at scientific conferences as appropriate.
• Provide collaborative assistance to scientists as required, especially regarding application of human physiology and operational procedures content of protocols.
• May require working evenings and weekends; may involve working with biohazardous materials.
• Participate as trained Inside Observer duties for altitude chamber studies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Certification in Aerospace Physiology (CAsP) or Aerospace Physiology Officer Course
• Master of Science in Aerospace Physiology or related degree
• 3 years of relevant professional experience in aerospace physiology.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
• Must be a US citizen able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• Experience in supporting military research and development.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
• Proficient in human subjects’ data collection and data entry, data cleaning, and data management
• Microsoft Office Products.
