Job Description

Effectively oversee and support technical services planning groups in short and long-range time frames both in planning and design of pits along with drill & blast patterns, employing advanced mine engineering practices. Ensure the safe, timely, and professional execution of all functions within an open-pit mining environment.

1. Provide support & leadership that enables the Technical Services team to achieve zero harm to our people and environment.
  • Support department training plan by providing and maintaining documentation to key Principal Control Plans, Principal Hazard Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support site wide safety programs by performing field verifications of critical controls to Fatal Risks.

2. Provide leadership and support that enables the Technical Services team to perform at a high level and achieve their professional development goals.
  • Mentor & train engineers providing guidance on best practices
  • Establishment of development goals for all team members, focusing on employee growth and succession potential
  • Participation in succession planning exercise

3 Support the execution of site business plan.
  • Manage the production of precise daily, weekly, and rolling three-month mine and dump plans, maximizing efficiency and productivity while adhering to the constraints of the current long-range plan and forecast.
  • Maintain the design database, standardizing all design areas and the design signoff process.
  • Collaborate with mine operations for any changes required to meet monthly mine and dump plan requirements.
  • Improve the effective use of mining software and explore technical solutions/new products related to the production planning process.
  • Monitor the short- and long-term plan to ensure critical path targets are achieved.
  • Ensure mining is planned and executed to maximize ore recovery and minimize mining dilution.
  • Utilize reconciliation data to optimally mine the defined ore, reliably predicting grade and tonnages.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering from an accredited university
  • 5 years minimum, 8+ years preferred mining experience with at least 5 years of exposure to the gold mining industry in an open pit environment.

Safety
  • Demonstrates commitment to health, safety, environmental and community (MSHA or HSEC) standards.
  • Complies with all site safety requirements, procedures, and mandatory training.
  • Actively promotes a positive safety culture and visible safety practices.

Knowledge & Core Functional Competencies
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate technical information between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deswik software skills are a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in both office and operational mining environments.
  • Ability to regularly access active mining and processing areas to support operational teams, conduct site visits, investigations, coaching, and workforce engagement activities.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and access elevated work areas as required.
  • Ability to wear and use mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE).

Licences/ Tickets
  • Valid driver's license.
