Role Overview

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer will be responsible for supervision of mine planning, drill/blast planning and surveying department. Other tasks will include execution of strategic planning, budget review, project management as well as coaching and mentoring of EITs. Additionally, the role provides a development opportunity as there will be occasions that acting as the Chief Engineer is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of Short, Medium and Long Range Plans, as well as participate in the creation and review of yearly budget and life of mine planning
  • Supervise drilling and blasting design activities in compliance with company SOPs
  • Provide direction to Mine Operations in accordance with strategic planning
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, promoting professional growth for EITs.
  • Mine Design work including waste dumps, stockpiles, haul roads and underground void model updates
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • End of month reconciliations as well as quarterly and yearly reporting presentations


What You Bring to the Table

  • University degree in Mining Engineering or similar field.
  • Professional Engineering Designation or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer within 6 months.
  • A Minimum of eight years of open pit mine engineering experience required.
  • Proficiency mine design software such as MinePlan considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Fleet Management Systems, production reporting systems and analytical tools (such as PowerBi)
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, strong team and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of working around historic underground voids considered an asset
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

  • The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on a 14/14 rotation schedule.
