Senior MetallurgistWe are currently seeking a Senior Metallurgist. This role is a full time, max-term position, reporting to the Site Manager and will be based at our Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia.
The Opportunity:
- Leading the implementation of safe work practices by ensuring work conditions and procedures within the Department are held to a high standard.
- Proactively identifying safety issues and investigating all safety and health concerns and continuously enhancing safety measures.
- Creating and maintaining safe work procedures (SOP) and practices, as well as ensuring compliance of yourself and your department by completing all required training on time. Where procedures do not exist, the Senior Metallurgist will ensure that the appropriate risk assessments are conducted.
- Creating, maintaining, managing, executing and approving the Atlantic Operations' TMF Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) Manual; TMF Operational Preparedness and Response Plan (OPRP); and the TMF Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).
- Overseeing budgeting and forecasting of the Tailings, Metallurgy department, and offsite Assay Lab work across the Atlantic Operations.
- Producing accurate metallurgical balance on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Ensuring gold production targets are met or exceeded in a safe and efficient manner by analyzing production trends, developing & optimizing metallurgical KPIs and providing systems by which these parameters can be monitored by the process operations team.
- Training and supporting plant operating personnel on industry standard methods, metallurgical best practices including, but not limited to, sampling and sample preparation methods and KPI monitoring.
Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognized university.
- Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers Nova Scotia or must be eligible for immediate transfer or registration via interprovincial mobility, including successfully passing the National Professional Practice Examination (NPPE).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Designation.
- A minimum of eight years of pertinent experience in an industrial environment with at least 7 years of progressive leadership development.
- Theoretical and practical experience with grinding, gravity recovery, CIL, Zadra elution and/or cyanide detoxification, and tailings circuits preferred but not required.
- Ability to develop, perform and interpret Metallurgical test work.
- Must possess a systematic approach to problems solving and decision making.
