Opportunity Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Teradyne's Defense & Aerospace division, you will design and deliver custom electro-mechanical solutions for advanced test systems supporting mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into robust, manufacturable designs across new product introductions and existing platforms.
  • Lead mechanical design of cables, ITAs, and custom test fixtures for automated test equipment
  • Develop and release detailed CAD models, drawings, and documentation from concept through production
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, program management, and customers to define requirements and solutions
  • Build and validate designs through analysis, prototyping, and testing
  • Support product lifecycle activities including sustaining engineering and design improvements
  • Partner with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to deliver cost-effective solutions

We're looking for someone who thrives in a hands-on engineering environment and enjoys solving complex design challenges.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical design (cables, ITAs, test fixtures preferred)
  • Strong proficiency with SOLIDWORKS (or similar CAD tools) and product data management systems
  • Experience with metal fabrication, machining, and mechanical design fundamentals (tolerancing, materials, thermal considerations)
  • Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and cable/wire harness design standards
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with customers, teams, and suppliers
  • Experience working with vendors and manufacturing processes, including CNC machining
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and ability to manage shifting priorities


Preferred:
  • Experience with automated test equipment and Virginia Panel Corporation (VPC) interfaces
  • Familiarity with defense/aerospace systems or regulated environments
  • Willingness to travel (~10%) to support customer and manufacturing activities


We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $121,700 - $194,700. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
