This role is part of a cross-functional team and will be responsible for leading the development of new manufacturing processes from initial conceptualization through low-rate initial production. It requires that the team member develop an intimate understanding of the aircraft system requirements to effectively develop and implement materials and/or processes that solve for the goals of the business. The ideal candidate is someone with deep experience in one or more manufacturing technologies, including, but not limited to, filament winding, automated fiber placement, resin transfer molding, compression molding, injection molding, resin casting, metal additive manufacturing, forging, metal casting, stamping, welding, conventional spray coating, thermal spray coating, and electroplating. The candidate should have demonstrated competence in design for manufacturing. As a member of the NPI team, you will collaborate with a broad range of team members to deliver new technologies that will enable Beta to achieve profitable full rate production. This position offers the possibility to learn something new every day and contribute to the future of aviation. How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation: - Become intimately familiar with the materials and manufacturing processes currently used to fabricate and assemble the aircraft to promote concept generation for new materials and/or processes - Lead the mechanical design for new development projects from conception through technology readiness level 7 - Lead the fabrication of proof-of-concept prototypes and associated test equipment and/or fixtures to enable rapidly iterative test campaigns - Collaborate with the design and manufacturing teams to conceptualize new materials and/or processes aimed at cost reduction, performance improvement, and/or manufacturing scalability - Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to define the make versus buy and transfer of ownership strategies for new candidate materials and/or processes - Collaborate with the systems and certification teams to ensure certifiability of new technologies - Design or select manufacturing process equipment in coordination with design, manufacturing, and production teams - Iteratively design, build, and test prototypes in parallel with product design - Support manufacturing and production teams after transition of ownership for newly developed technologies Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or another engineering field - Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-rate production - Strong background in new product introduction (NPI) - Experience in scaling production, integrating new products, and driving cost reduction - Knowledge of automation and advanced production technologies - Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and metrology tools for precision manufacturing - Data-driven decision maker, using analytics to guide process improvements - Ability to work hard to meet our ambitious goals and tight deadlines - Ability to remain self-motivated after repeated failures until the project achieves success The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role.
