Full Job Description
Job Summary

Landrum & Brown (L&B) is seeking a Senior Managing Consultant to serve as a strategic and operational leader within our Aviation Environmental practice. This role is designed for an established environmental professional with deep, aviation-specific expertise who is ready to shape direction, influence executive decision-making, and operate as a national center of excellence for environmental due diligence across major U.S. airports.

You will function at the intersection of technical authority, operational leadership, and client advisory - guiding complex NEPA programs while mentoring teams and strengthening our aviation environmental platform.

The Opportunity

This is not a purely technical delivery role. It is a senior leadership position with dual impact:

Operational Leadership: Support practice leadership in resource planning, financial performance, quality assurance, and risk management across aviation environmental projects.

Technical Center of Excellence: Serve as a national authority for airport environmental issues, overseeing and advising on Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Categorical Exclusions (CatEx) for major airport capital programs.

You will play a visible role in shaping environmental strategy for airport sponsors, airlines, and federal stakeholders while maintaining hands-on involvement in technically complex and high-profile programs.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Your Impact:

Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Partner with Aviation Practice leadership to drive operational excellence, including forecasting, staffing strategy, margin management, and quality control.
  • Elevate technical standards and consistency across EIS, EA, and CatEx documentation nationwide.
  • Lead internal technical reviews and serve as escalation authority for complex environmental risk issues.
  • Mentor mid-level staff, building bench strength in aviation-focused NEPA delivery.

Technical Authority - Aviation Environmental Due Diligence
  • Provide senior oversight and direction on airport NEPA and environmental issues:
  • Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)
  • Environmental Assessments (EA)
  • Categorical Exclusions (CatEx)
  • Part 150 Noise Compatibility Programs
  • Stand alone noise and air quality analyses specifically for aviation sources

  • Provide environmental support for airfield expansion, runway extensions, terminal redevelopment, and landside infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee technical disciplines including air quality conformity, noise analysis (Part 150 and Part 161 familiarity), wetlands, cultural resources, and cumulative impact analysis.
  • Interface with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airport authorities, and cooperating agencies on complex regulatory matters.

Client Advisory & Market Leadership
  • Act as executive-level advisor to airport sponsors and aviation clients.
  • Support business development efforts, including capture strategy, proposal leadership, and client relationship management.
  • Represent the firm in industry forums such as Airports Council International (ACI), American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), and Airport Consultants Council (ACC).
  • Strengthen our reputation as a trusted environmental advisor across major U.S. aviation hubs.

What We're Seeking:
  • 10+ years of progressive environmental consulting experience, with a strong concentration in aviation infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex NEPA documents (EIS, EA, CatEx) for commercial service airports.
  • Direct experience working with FAA Airport District Offices and regional environmental staff.
  • Strong command of environmental risk mitigation strategies in large capital improvement programs.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Track record of operational oversight - budget accountability, utilization management, and performance leadership.
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field preferred.

Why This Role Stands Out:
  • National Visibility: Influence environmental programs at many of the largest airports in the United States.
  • Leadership Without Losing Technical Depth: Maintain hands-on engagement in technically complex work while shaping practice direction.
  • Platform for Broader Executive Growth: Direct pathway toward broader aviation practice leadership.
  • Center of Excellence Mandate: Build and refine best-in-class standards for aviation environmental due diligence.

This position is ideal for an environmental leader who has mastered aviation NEPA delivery and is ready to extend their impact - operationally, strategically, and nationally - while continuing to serve as a trusted technical authority.
