The Role and What You’ll Do:

The UFC Performance Institute (UFCPI) is the world’s first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) multi-disciplinary research, innovation, and training center, and is globally recognized for the performance infrastructures it provides to UFC and UFC Academy athletes. With world-class facilities in Las Vegas, Shanghai, and Mexico City, the mission of the UFCPI is to promote performance-enhancement through the delivery of world-class coaching, science, and medical services to the world’s best MMA and combat athletes. The core values of the UFCPI are aligned with maximizing the health and wellbeing of UFC athletes and to support fighters and coaches in optimizing their training, preparation, and ultimately performances inside the octagon.

Aligned with the overall strategy of the UFC and the UFC Performance Institute (UFC PI), the Senior Manager, Sports Medicine leads the delivery and continuous advancement of elite sports medicine services at the UFC Performance Institute, partnering with the Vice President of Sports Medicine to establish clinical standards, injury-prevention strategies, rehabilitation guidelines, and return-to-performance protocols.

  • Oversees the provision of elite level sports therapy services including evaluations, program planning and treatments that include manual, myofascial, modality and other therapeutic exercise interventions.
  • Provides clinical oversight and day-to-day supervision of the sports medicine team and clinical interns, ensuring quality of care, consistent application of protocols, timely feedback, and ongoing professional development.
  • Manages integration of sports medicine services into a multi-disciplinary model of care that includes strength and conditioning, performance nutrition, and performance science.
  • Conducts the continual review of physical therapy care guidelines with an emphasis on return to play protocols.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in development of support systems to aid in athlete assessment, data collection, and data management.
  • Cultivates relationships with athletes, coaches, and gyms to distribute evidence-based relevant information.
  • Participates in on-going training with athletes, coaches, and UFC PI staff members to ensure continued professional development and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
  • Performs other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as requested by the Vice President of Sports Medicine to establish a world-leading performance facility.

You Have These:

  • Post Graduate Degree in Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, or ACBSP Chiropractor certification.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience working with professional, high-level collegiate/amateur, or tactical athletes in an integrated performance environment required; 10+ years preferred.
  • Experience leading or supervising clinical staff strongly preferred.
  • Credentials focused on sport performance and sport rehab such as SCS, OCS, CSCS, CCSP, DACBSP, PES, CES are highly preferred.
  • Current state licensure in good standing within the U.S.A. required.  Demonstrate ability to obtain Nevada state board licensure is required. 
  • Awareness and proven ability to effectively collaborate with strength & conditioning staff on both prevention, rehabilitation and return to performance efforts.
  • Certifications in manual therapy and soft tissue/myofascial techniques are highly preferred
  • Professional experience in contact sports required, combat sports preferred.
  • Understanding of the demands of the MMA sport (i.e. physical, physiology, gender-specific, weight categories, weight management, travel requirements, etc.).
  • Understanding of existing evidence-based research, and the implementation of new research areas to enhance the sport, athletes, and coaches.
