What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Manager Payroll Modernization you will drive the transformation of RBC's payroll, pension, and benefits processes through the SAP Payroll Modernization project. Leading a high-performance team, working in collaboration with the Project Delivery team and HR Information Technology, this role is accountable for delivering a transformed payroll infrastructure that enhances accuracy, operational efficiency, ultimately supporting RBC's commitment to innovation and operational excellence in payroll.

What You'll Do:

Team Management & Development
  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of Payroll Modernization Specialists and UAT resources
  • Set clear performance expectations aligned with program objectives, manage performance through established measurement tools; promote reward and recognition of top talent; coaches and mentors direct reports on an ongoing basis ensuring development plans are in place
  • Allocate resources strategically based on program needs and individual capabilities


Process Transformation
  • Oversee end-to-end process mapping, analysis, and optimization across payroll, pension, and benefits
  • Define "as-is" and "to-be" workflows in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Lead wage code standardization initiatives to ensure consistency and compliance
  • Identify and prioritize process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce risk
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and RBC's control environment
  • Guide the definition of functional and technical requirements for the SAP payroll application
  • Champion design decisions that balance modernization objectives with operational feasibility


Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Oversee a comprehensive testing strategy, including unit, integration, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Ensure test plans, test cases, and scripts are comprehensive and aligned with requirements
  • Guide the team in identifying, documenting, and validating defect resolutions


Change Management
  • Develop and execute a change management strategy addressing organizational readiness and adoption
  • Ensure comprehensive process documentation reflects updated workflows and system functionality
  • Oversee the creation of user guides, reference materials, and quick-reference documents
  • Guide team to establish training and support mechanisms for seamless user adoption
  • Build a knowledge repository to support ongoing operations and future enhancements


Post-Implementation Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Establish a post-go-live support structure to address user issues and system challenges
  • Monitor system performance, user adoption metrics, and operational outcomes
  • Support the transition from implementation to steady-state operations
  • Recommend and prioritize enhancements based on user feedback and business needs


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:
  • 7+ yaers of demonstrated success leading complex, multi-year transformation programs
  • Proven experience managing organizational change and driving adoption
  • Strong team building, mentoring, and performance management capabilities
  • Experience with process mapping, optimization, and standardization methodologies
  • Understanding of system testing methodologies and quality assurance practices
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and risk management capabilities
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills


Nice-to-have:
  • Strong data analysis and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with SAP or enterprise ERP payroll modules
  • Knowledge of payroll, pension, and benefits processes and regulations
