DescriptionSenior Manager of Software Engineering Location: Wallick Corporate Office - New Albany, OH
Job Type: Full-time
What You'll Do: - The Sr Manager Software Engineering leads Build & Automate, Pillar 2 of Wallick's IT operating model, and holds accountability for every decision within it. The pillar owns the automation portfolio, the integration estate that moves operational data across Yardi, Dayforce, Procore, enterprise systems, and the satellite solutions that extend the systems of record, and it holds Wallick's AI agenda as a joint accountability with the Data & Analytics team. The pillar exists so that Wallick can grow without adding people at the same rate: it automates repetitive work, connects the systems so data moves without being rekeyed, and gives business teams controlled tools for configuration and workflow instead of unrestricted direct admin access to the core systems. You will report to the VP of Information Technology and work together with other team members and leaders.
- The seat is deliberately a business-technology leader, not a Principal Architect. The role owns outcomes, priorities, and the pillar's accountability. Deep technical authority lives with the Principal Software Engineer - Integrate & Aggregate, the Sr. manager's trusted technical advisor on architecture and engineering calls. The Leader consults the Principal before committing externally, then decides. Both know the seams, and the model works because they are honest.
What We're Looking For: - Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A track record, typically built over eight or more years, in delivering business technology solutions, including at least three years leading a technical team or a portfolio of technical work.
- Business acumen and stakeholder engagement: able to represent the pillar at the executive table, negotiate priorities with business leaders, and explain a technical trade-off in business terms.
- Portfolio and priority judgment: experience running a backlog of integration, automation, and software work against business outcomes, and holding the line on scope.
- Growing technical breadth rather than depth: working literacy in integration patterns, workflow automation, AI and agent tooling, and modern application platforms, with the appetite to keep learning and the comfort to decide with strong technical input from a peer whose judgment you trust.
- AI and automation strategic literacy, exercised jointly with the Data & Analytics team: able to see where automation and AI change an operating process and where they do not, and to reach those judgments with a peer rather than alone.
- Governance experience: solution architecture approval, change and release management, and application portfolio decisions (rationalization, sunset, and portfolio health).
- People leadership: developing engineers at different career stages, including a principal-level advisor and an early-career builder.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft cloud ecosystem (Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Copilot Studio) is strongly preferred. Experience in multifamily housing, senior living, or another regulated operating business is a plus.
Functions and Responsibilities: Pillar Leadership and Portfolio Management- Lead the Build & Automate pillar and its portfolio of integration, automation, AI, and software engineering initiatives, aligned with business roadmaps.
- Provide leadership and career development for the Principal Software Engineer, Integrate & Aggregate, and the Software Engineer, Extend.
- Partner with the Principal Software Engineer on architecture and technical strategy, leveraging the role's technical expertise before making external commitments.
- Represent the pillar with IT leadership and business stakeholders, coordinating cross-pillar priorities with the Leaders of Business Capabilities and IT Operations & Trust.
Integration, Automation, and AI- Own the strategy, priorities, health, and outcomes of enterprise integrations, including data movement across Yardi, Dayforce, Procore, and other systems, as well as modernization of legacy integrations.
- Oversee the integrations and pipelines that deliver operational data to the Data & Analytics platform, in coordination with business data owners, Data & Analytics, and Power & Protect.
- Jointly lead the automation and AI portfolio with Data & Analytics, including prioritization, governance, delivery, and measurement of business value.
- Co-chair the AI Council, which governs AI policy, platforms, licensing, data access, investment priorities, and value measurement. Escalate unresolved decisions to the SVP of Organizational Effectiveness and Technology.
- Move validated concepts from experimentation into scalable, supported enterprise solutions.
Architecture, Governance, and Applications- Own solution architecture for the pillar, with the Principal Software Engineer developing technical patterns and standards for leadership review and approval.
- Oversee change and release governance for pillar solutions.
- Manage the application portfolio, including the application register, portfolio health, rationalization, and retirement decisions. Commercial license management remains with the Vendor Management Analyst.
- Chair the weekly cross-pillar technical council to coordinate standards, dependencies, and technical decisions.
Transformation Program Leadership- Serve as the default leader for major cross-pillar transformation programs with a significant technology build component, subject to assignment by the VP of Information Technology.
- Deliver programs with clear scope, priorities, dependencies, and sequencing.
- Partner with Partner & Transform from program inception to incorporate stakeholder engagement, change management, and adoption into delivery plans.
