Summary: The Senior Manager - Distribution and Logistics oversees end-to-end order fulfillment, driving operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and timely delivery. This role manages cross-functional coordination between sales, warehouses, carriers, and ensures compliance with service standards and internal policies. Responsibilities include optimizing logistics workflows, resolving fulfillment issues, leading process improvements, and maintaining accurate documentation. Strong leadership is essential to enforce quality standards, elevate team performance, and ensure cohesive execution across distribution and logistics functions.
Job Description
- Oversee multi-brand and multi-channel fulfillment operations, ensuring SLA requirements, inventory accuracy, cost and labor efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performance team with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
- Implement training programs and process optimizations to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Manage workflows, troubleshoot fulfillment, product, and system issues. Deploy both immediate and long-term solutions.
- Optimize carrier relationships, balancing cost control with delivery performance across LTL, FTL, and parcel shipments.
- Analyze transportation and fulfillment cost drivers; implement automation, consolidation strategies, and rate-shopping tools to reduce freight spend and improve logistics margins.
- Maintain oversight of critical vendor relationships for shipping materials, warehouse supplies, and third-party logistics (3PLs), driving cost-reduction initiatives and service level improvements.
- Enforce strict quality control procedures across packing, labeling, shipping, and returns handling to minimize order defects, mis-picks, shrinkage, and customer returns.
- Support and continuously improve inventory accuracy through cycle counting, reconciliation audits, slotting optimization, and demand-driven stock allocation across distribution centers.
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and advanced analytics to reduce lead times, enhance inventory turnover, eliminate waste, and increase warehouse throughput.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and shipping standards.
- Develop mitigation plans for logistics disruptions, including weather, labor shortages, capacity constraints, or system outages; build redundancy and agility into the distribution network.
- Utilize WMS, TMS, and ERP systems for automation, real-time tracking, and performance reporting.
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on layout redesign, equipment utilization, process automation, and scaling strategies to support business growth and seasonal surges.
Requirements and Skills
- 5+ years experience leading teams in high volume distribution environments.
- 5+ years of Lean Manufacturing or Lean Warehousing experience is highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in supply chain, business, or related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent business communication skills (oral and written); comfortable presenting to senior leadership.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel with an understanding of Excel modeling, data analysis, and reporting; macro/VBA skills are a plus.
- Technical project management or involvement with technology-based picking systems and automation are also a plus (Pick-to-Light, Auto-box erectors, etc.).
- Strong cross-functional communication skills; adept at engaging vendors, IT, finance, and executive stakeholders to align on logistics objectives and timelines.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills for managing carrier contracts, vendor agreements, and internal resource allocation.
- Ability to work on multiple and often competing issues at the same time.
- Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment, dealing with new challenges every day.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (eight or more hours per day).
- Ability to see and hear and respond to visual and auditory stimuli (physical assessment of properties and facilities, etc.); ability to grasp, reach, lift, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, push, pull, stretch.
Pay Range: $115,000 - $150,000 per year
