Senior Machinist

Location: Evansville, IN 

Schedule: 7:00 AM -3:30 PM

Position Summary

Xylem is a leading global water technology company committed to solving the world's most challenging water issues through innovation and expertise. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Machinist to join our team. The Senior Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a variety of manual machine tools used in the repair, and refurbishment of pump components, rotating equipment, and related products. 

This position serves as a technical resource supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity. The role may require travel to customer sites or service center locations for specialized machining support, equipment evaluations, and field service activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machine tools including lathes, mills, boring mills, grinders, and related equipment. 

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions to manufacture and repair precision components. 

  • Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and other inspection tools. 

  • Manufacture, modify, and repair components to required tolerances and quality standards. 

  • Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. 

  • Assist engineering and operations teams with process improvements, fixture design, tooling selection, and machining strategies. 

  • Conduct equipment inspections and evaluate parts for repair or replacement. 

  • Ensure compliance with all Xylem safety policies and environmental regulations. 

  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and maintenance documentation. 

  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, procurement, and production teams to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules. 

  • Support field service, outage, and emergency repair activities as required. 

  • Travel up to 20% to customer facilities, service centers, and other Xylem locations to provide technical machining support and expertise. 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. 

  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or vocational training in Machining Technology or a related field preferred. 

  • 7 + years of machining experience in a manufacturing, repair, or industrial environment. 

  • G-Code experience

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T requirements. 

  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques. 

  • Advanced knowledge of manual machining practices and machining operations. 

  • Experience machining various materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron, bronze, and specialty alloys. 

  • Strong understanding of machining speeds, feeds, tooling, and cutting parameters. 

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 

  • Working knowledge of shop mathematics, machining calculations, and technical documentation. 

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 20%. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pump repair, rotating equipment, water infrastructure, or industrial manufacturing. 

  • Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing software. 

  • Welding, fabrication, or mechanical assembly experience. 

  • ASME, ISO, or related quality system experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday. 

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds regularly. 

  • Ability to work in industrial manufacturing and field-service environments. 

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). 

  • Ability to travel and work at customer locations when required.
