S&P Global Dow Jones IndicesThe role: Senior Lead, Java Application Developer
The Location: Hybrid setting role, 2 days per week onsite on NYC or Princeton, NJ
The Impact:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Java Application Developer to design, develop, and support web-based applications and backend systems for S&P Dow Jones Indices. This role includes leading and mentoring development team members, driving technical solutions, and ensuring delivery excellence across projects. The developer will be responsible for both new initiatives and ongoing support for critical index applications, spanning the full software development lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and development of Java/J2EE applications for SPDJI systems and websites.
Provide technical guidance and support to team members across development, testing, and deployment activities.
Develop web applications with rich front-end interfaces and integrate with internal/vendor platforms.
Conduct system performance tuning and troubleshoot application issues.
Interface with databases using advanced SQL and PL/SQL.
Participate in code reviews, version control, and enforce best development practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business users, product owners, and IT stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications10+ years of experience in Java development with strong skills in J2EE, JMS, EJB.
Proven experience leading software development teams or technical projects.
Proficient in advanced SQL and PL/SQL.
Experience with Unix scripting, vulnerability remediation, and application performance tuning.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired SkillsExperience in three or more of the following is preferred:
Advanced Python or Scala
CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Ansible, Fortify, DevOps pipelines)
Microservices and Big Data (Spark, Hadoop/HDFS)
AWS services (EC2, EMR, Lambda, S3, Glue)
QA automation (Cucumber, Selenium, Karate)
Preferred Domain KnowledgeFinancial data systems: Equity, Commodities, Forex, Futures, and Options.
Index/Benchmark or Asset Management platform experience.
Basic UI development skills (jQuery, HTML5, CSS) are a plus.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 – $170,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role.
