Senior iOS DeveloperDepartment: Engineering
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Melville, NY
Reporting To: William Miller
Compensation: $135,000 - $145,000 / year
DescriptionThe OpportunityKWI is hiring a Senior iOS Developer to help build and run KWI POS. Store associates at specialty retailers like Pandora, Bluemercury and Tom Ford use this native Swift app on iPhone and iPad to ring sales. If it goes down, our clients can't take money, so reliability is part of the product.
Your main job is the iOS app. Most POS features also touch the web services behind it, written in Java or Go, so you will have the opportunity to develop down the stack and ship the service changes your screens depend on. You will also help modernize a mature codebase: retire legacy Objective-C, harden offline mode, and make releases more predictable. And you will do it with AI-assisted, spec-driven development as your normal way of working.
The impact you'll make- Design, build and ship features in the KWI POS app for iPhone and iPad, mostly in Swift, using Xcode
- Work with the lead developer on app architecture, and own the iOS side of each feature: state management, error handling and test coverage
- Build intelligence into the POS: AI-driven features that help associates sell
- Work from specs written with Product, Design and QA, and help sharpen those specs before code starts
- Use AI coding tools every day to write, test and refactor code, and help the team improve how we use them
- Make offline mode more reliable: keep stores selling without a network, then reconcile cleanly when it returns
- Build and support integrations with payment devices and store hardware, including card readers, receipt printers and scanners
- Retire legacy Objective-C and move the app toward modern Swift patterns, including SwiftUI and Swift concurrency where they fit
- Improve performance, stability and crash rates, using the telemetry we already collect
- Troubleshoot production issues in client stores, including problems that only show up with a specific client's configuration
- Review code, mentor other engineers, and work as a technical partner to our offshore development team
- Develop down the stack: take on changes to the Java or Go web services your screens call as you grow in the role
What you will bring- BS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 6+ years of professional software development, including 5+ years building native iOS apps in Swift that shipped to production
- Enough Objective-C to read, debug and safely migrate legacy code
- Deep knowledge of UIKit and the iOS app lifecycle, plus working experience with SwiftUI and Swift concurrency (async/await)
- Experience integrating iOS apps with RESTful APIs, and a clear understanding of how the app and its services work together
- Experience building offline-first apps: local persistence (SQLite or Core Data), sync and conflict handling
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot
- Strong testing habits: unit and UI tests with XCTest, and a commitment to automated testing
- Experience with Git, CI/CD for iOS (Jenkins, Fastlane or similar), code signing and App Store or enterprise distribution
- Experience with Agile delivery (Kanban or Scrum) and tracking work in Jira
- The discipline to work in a codebase where a mistake can stop a store from selling, and clear communication when something goes wrong
Nice to have - Backend development in Java or Go
- Card-present payments: payment gateways, EMV devices, tender types, gift cards, certification cycles
- Retail or point-of-sale domain experience
- React Native experience (we also maintain a React Native app)
- Experience with Bluetooth or external accessory integrations on iOS
- Observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry or crash reporting
- Experience working with offshore or distributed teams
- Shipping AI features in a mobile app: Core ML, Apple's Foundation Models framework, or integrating LLM APIs
