The team focuses on driving innovation by simplifying, scaling, and making computing accessible and affordable globally. Infrastructure and services support developers in creating next-generation applications. Responsibilities include designing and developing core compute interfaces, virtualization management, APIs, and platform services. The goal is to enable seamless workload deployment and scaling across diverse architecture environments worldwide.

Partner with the best

In this role, you'll work on core compute platform infrastructure and APIs powering instance orchestration across the Akamai Connected Cloud. You'll work closely with QEMU, Linux systems, and hardware teams to drive our native ARM and x86 compute. Our work environment nurtures rapid development cycles, open communication, and innovative engineering solutions to build high-density compute systems.

As a Senior II Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Designing and scaling ARM64 compute platform functionality, hypervisor integration, and instance management across ACC.
• Developing low-level platform services, resource orchestration tools, and compute APIs using Python, Go, or compiled systems languages.
• Designing, implementing, reviewing, documenting, and testing high quality code in close collaboration with your team.
• Working closely with peers, and coordinating with global teams to build new features or resolve software Bugs.
• Participating in technical design reviews and mentoring junior team members on infrastructure initiatives.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Demonstrate extensive experience with the full software development life cycle including code reviews, release management and support
• Show proficiency developing software in Python, Go, C/C++, or Rust.
• Have experience with cloud compute virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU), container runtimes, Linux system APIs, or hypervisor integration.
• Possess experience with web application development, microservices, micro-orchestration, RESTful APIs, and database design patterns.
• Have excellent debugging, profiling, and troubleshooting skills across distributed Linux systems and database layers.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $146,400 - $263,600/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
