Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Senior Geologist, Corporate Planning position is responsible for advanced geoscience analysis that supports corporate planning, strategic investment decisions, and the evaluation of acquisition, divestiture, and organic growth opportunities. This role integrates geological, engineering, commercial, and operational data to build subsurface interpretations, assess play and asset value drivers, characterize geological risk, and deliver technically robust recommendations to senior leadership.
Working collaboratively across disciplines, the Senior Geologist will manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, independently develop and maintain geological workflows and models, and clearly communicate conclusions to technical and non-technical stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity to apply broad conventional and unconventional geoscience expertise to our diverse mineral and royalty portfolio.
In This Role, You Will
Conduct integrated geoscience evaluations of corporate planning, acquisition, divestiture, and organic growth opportunities using geological, production and reservoir performance, commercial, and operational data
Develop, update, and document geological and subsurface models for multiple key basins that include regional maps, depositional frameworks, play concepts, and reservoir interpretations; materials generated must clearly communicate assumptions, sensitivities, limitations, and recommendations to key non-technical stakeholders across organization
Apply a working knowledge of structural geology, stratigraphic correlation, sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, basin analysis, petroleum systems concepts, and reservoir characterization techniques to all evaluations
Integrate well logs, core data, seismic information, production and reservoir performance data, volumetric mapping, petrophysics, rock mechanics, and other diagnostics to identify risks, opportunities, and potential upside value
Construct play analogs and assess geological uncertainty and risk for emerging trends across the L48, collaborating with reservoir engineering, land, operations, finance, business development, and other internal stakeholders to translate technical learnings into improved asset and portfolio evaluations
Prepare concise, decision-ready presentations and technical documentation for senior leadership, often under compressed timelines and with a high volume of data
Use geoscience software and data analytics tools to create efficient, repeatable workflows and maintain accurate, current datasets and models; ability to build and maintain Kingdom projects preferred
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
What We Require
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geosciences, or a closely related discipline; commensurate relevant experience may be considered
At least 12 years of relevant oil and gas geoscience experience, preferably including corporate planning, business development, A&D or M&A evaluations
Demonstrated experience evaluating conventional and unconventional oil and gas opportunities across a variety of structural and stratigraphic settings
Proven ability to integrate geology and engineering data to evaluate reservoirs, development concepts, drilling results, and asset value drivers
Advanced capability in geological modeling, well-log interpretation and correlation, lithology and stratigraphy analysis, basin modeling, petrophysics, rock mechanics, and reservoir engineering concepts
Strong analytical thinking, sound technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a high volume of data and multiple concurrent priorities
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical conclusions to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Demonstrated collaboration, stakeholder relationship management, active learning, digital literacy, results orientation, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision
Experience with data analytics, vintage-log analysis, machine learning applications, and the development of repeatable technical workflows
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Geology, Geosciences, or a closely related discipline
Professional Geologist license, Certified Petroleum Geologist designation, or another relevant professional certification
Proficiency in SMT Kingdom is preferred; experience with one or more of GIS, Spotfire, or Alteryx is also desirable
