The RoleVolley is hiring a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to own the applications our customers and end users touch every day: the kiosk app in the bay, the mobile app, and the bay guidance display. You'll own these end to end, from requirements through shipping and supporting software that runs against real hardware. Requirements change as the hardware and the business evolve, so you should be comfortable making product and technical calls without a finished spec. You should like building things, prefer simple solutions, and care how the result feels to the person standing in front of it.
Responsibilities- Own the design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement of Volley's user-facing applications, each of which integrates with garage and bay software and hardware.
- Translate product requirements, user flows, and mockups into polished, production-ready interfaces for kiosk, mobile, and web.
- Lead new user-facing systems as the platform grows, including web applications for garage and AGV management, internal tools for running simulations, and EV charging features in the mobile and kiosk apps.
- Write frontend code that is tested, maintainable, and performs well on the hardware it ships on.
- Work with backend, robotics, hardware, and operations engineers on application architecture, APIs, and integrations.
- Develop and test against real robots and bay hardware at our test facility and at customer sites, troubleshoot issues when they come up, and take part in showcase and pilot deployments.
Required Qualifications- BS (MS preferred) in CS or a related discipline.
- Deep understanding of frontend fundamentals: responsive and adaptive layout, state management, component architecture, debugging, and testing, with experience shipping production UIs backed by REST APIs.
- Strong experience with Flutter/Dart or another modern frontend framework such as React, React Native, Vue, or Angular, and with mobile or hybrid app development on iOS or Android.
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- A track record of taking projects from prototype to deployed, monitored production software.
- Willingness to work across the stack, including backend, testing, and simulation, when that is where the work is.
- Ability to work in person. Travel is not a regular part of the role, but expect occasional visits to customer deployment sites to see your work in operation and gather feedback from users.
Preferred Qualifications- Direct professional experience with Flutter/Dart.
- Experience building and deploying apps for kiosk, embedded-display, or on-device Linux hardware.
- Strong system design experience and rapid prototyping skills.
- Experience setting up CI/CD with GitHub Actions, including automated build and release for mobile apps.
- Working knowledge of AWS for the services your applications depend on.
- Exposure to Docker.
- Experience with 3D visualization or scheduling/simulation interfaces.
- Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 or other robotics software.
Bonus PointsNot required, but a big plus.
- Solid visual and interaction design instincts, with the ability to independently produce clear, intuitive user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Experience storyboarding end-to-end user journeys, such as a driver arriving at the bay, handing off a vehicle, receiving a retrieval code, and picking the car up later, and turning those storyboards into screens.
- Experience researching and incorporating user feedback, product insights, and analytics to identify pain points and inform requirements and design decisions.
- Experience conducting usability testing with real users, defining success criteria, and iterating on the experience over time.
- A strong eye for system feedback in physical, public-space interfaces: status, progress, and error states that make an automated system feel trustworthy to a first-time user.
Applicant must provide proof of his or her eligibility to work in the United States if selected for hire.
