Our growing Financial Reporting Team is seeking a
Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to perform and review accounting activities related to financial reporting, financial statements, and financial analysis. This position supports the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report by developing reporting schedules, disclosures, and analytical content. This role is responsible for preparing, interpreting, and analyzing financial data, preparing internal and external financial reports, and assisting the Financial Reporting Team with the interpretation and implementation of accounting standards.
In this position, you will:• Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance and assist the Financial Reporting Team and Finance management with interpretation and implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements and other applicable accounting standards and practices including preparation of technical memorandums and policy documentation
• Perform all aspects of various accounting functions including preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, internal and external audit support, and accounting systems testing and forecasting
• Analyze and evaluate data recorded in various financial systems including financial and investment data reported by the agency's financial institutions and master custodian
• Prepare internal and external financial reports and perform complex financial analysis, including developing forecasts, financial models, recommendations, and strategies
• Coordinate responses to internal and external audit inquiries and assist with audit support activities
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and support compliance with accounting standards, processes, procedures, and policies
• Conduct research and reporting related to Defined Benefit 529 risk data as needed
Successful candidates will have:• Seven or more years of relevant work experience in governmental accounting, finance, or related field, with demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and general business processes; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; Certified Public Accountant designation preferred (CPA)
• Experience with the Commonwealth's financial reporting procedures and policies preferred
• Ability to read, compile, analyze and accurately interpret complex accounting and financial records and statements
• Ability to identify and define problems, collect and reconfigure data, establish facts, develop and communicate options and draw valid conclusions
• Demonstrated critical thinking, decision making and analytical ability with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet critical deadlines
• Demonstrated master level proficiency with Microsoft Excel; strong skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Proficiency with financial systems and business accounting software (general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reporting)
• Knowledge of SQL Queries, Business Objects, and Tableau Reporting Software preferred
• Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively, orally and in writing
• Ability to build rapport and collaborate with coworkers, other state government employees and the financial community
Work Environment:• This position follows a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days on-site each week
• Typical office environment with considerable time in a sitting, stationary position
• Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment including typing and keying
• Frequently communicate with team members and third-party business partners; must be able to exchange accurate information accordingly
