About the position

The incumbent will join the financial reporting group in the company that comprises of Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants. This group is responsible for performing general accounting, reconciliations, and analysis activities involved in the preparation of financial statements. Each member of the group is responsible for selected sections of financial statements and provides assistance with process documentation and implementation of projects as required. The individuals work closely with business groups to provide timely and insightful analysis of the units' financial performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to perform, but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the preparation of various sections of the monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements
  • Works with operational groups to provide meaningful variance analysis of income statement to management
  • Responsible for the preparation of working papers for financial statement reviews and audits
  • Analyzes complex business transactions and assists with presenting those on financial statements in compliance with GAAP (IFRS)
  • Prepares and reviews balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analyzes current processes and assists with the implementation of process improvement tools. Helps establish and document standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and strengthen internal control
  • Assists in the development of annual financial budget
  • Prepares and analyzes various reports for management and financial institutions
  • Other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Completion of four (4) year post-secondary degree education in a related field
  • Four (4) years of previous experience
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required
  • Practical experience in preparing variance analysis
  • Proficient with current MS Office tools especially advanced Excel
  • Experience with accounting and reporting software packages
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research, identify problems and recommend process improvements.
  • Experience with corporate income tax files an asset
  • Experience with inventory and job costing systems an asset
  • Possess strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills for dealing with people at various levels throughout the organization
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to analyze contracts and understand how to identify complex transactions
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada
