Job Summary The Senior Fabric Engineer leads the architecture and hands-on build of AI2IO's next-generation enterprise data platform on Microsoft Fabric. Reporting into the Business Intelligence function, this role is responsible for designing and implementing a governed Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) lakehouse architecture that consolidates data from Deltek Vantagepoint, project performance systems, HRIS, and financial systems into a single, trustworthy foundation for reporting, forecasting, and future AI-enabled analytics.
This is a deeply technical, builder-focused role. The Senior Fabric Engineer partners closely with the Director of Business
Intelligence and a Data Analyst to translate validated business definitions and source-system lineage into a well-modeled,
performant, and maintainable data platform - including ingestion pipelines, Delta Lake table design, dimensional modeling,
and the deployment standards that keep the platform reliable as it scales.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience standing up or significantly modernizing an enterprise data warehouse on the Microsoft data stack, is comfortable working from imperfect or undocumented legacy source systems, and takes pride in building a platform other people can trust.
Essential Functions Platform Architecture & Implementation - Design and Build the Fabric Lakehouse: Architect and implement the Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) layer structure in Microsoft Fabric, including Delta Lake table design, partitioning strategy, and performance optimization
- Own Data Ingestion & Integration: Design and build ingestion pipelines from source systems - including Deltek
- Vantagepoint, Power BI semantic models, project performance data, and financial/HRIS systems - into the Bronze layer, with appropriate error handling and monitoring
- Establish the Dimensional Model: Design and build a proper dimensional (Dim/Fact) model in the Silver/Gold layers that replaces ad hoc, view-on-view logic with clean, conformed dimensions and auditable fact tables
- Set Deployment Standards: Define and implement CI/CD, version control, environment promotion, and release standards for the data platform in partnership with the BI operating model and Azure DevOps backlog
Platform Engineering & Reliability - Ensure Data Quality at the Source: Build validation, reconciliation, and monitoring into ingestion and transformation pipelines so that data quality issues are caught before they reach reporting layers
- Optimize for Scale and Cost: Monitor and tune Fabric capacity usage, pipeline performance, and storage costs as the platform grows in scope and usage
- Document the Platform: Maintain clear technical documentation of pipeline logic, table schemas, and lineage from source system through to the Gold layer, in support of the broader KPI certification and governance effort
Partnership & Delivery - Partner with the Data Analyst: Translate validated business requirements, KPI definitions, and source-data findings from the Data Analyst into concrete platform design decisions
- Support Governance: Work with the Director of Business Intelligence and the KPI Governance Council to ensure the platform enforces, rather than works around, agreed-upon metric definitions
- Enable Forecasting & AI Enablement: Build the platform foundation needed to support enterprise revenue and IT forecasting initiatives, and future AI-assisted reporting and data Q&A capabilities
Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget - Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned
Position Requirements - Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, and Delta Lake, including Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture patterns
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing dimensional (Dim/Fact) data models for enterprise reporting
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with SQL Server, including reading and reverse-engineering complex, layered legacy views
- Experience building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines from ERP, financial, or project-based systems (experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar professional services ERP systems is a plus)
- Working knowledge of Power BI semantic models and DAX sufficient to collaborate effectively with BI/analytics stakeholders
- Experience establishing deployment, version control, and release standards for data platforms, ideally using Azure DevOps
- Ability to work independently from ambiguous or incomplete requirements, and to raise data quality or governance concerns proactively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical decisions clearly for a non-engineering audience
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technology and adapting to evolving requirements
Travel / Relocation Requirements - Up to 5%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states

Education / Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related discipline
PLUS
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, including hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, or comparable modern lakehouse platforms
- Experience working on an enterprise data warehouse or BI modernization initiative, ideally within a professional services, project-based, or similarly complex operating environment
