Full Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for quantifying, estimating, and supporting the FCC Construction, Inc. (FCC) estimating department on heavy civil infrastructure projects. Projects you could be working on include, but are not limited to, building bridges, roadways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, and tunnels. We pursue various projects stretching across the US and Canada. FCC is looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry. This position will work closely with other team members, including Project Managers, Bid Managers, the Chief Estimator, the Estimating/Bidding Director, and the Vice President of Construction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting Contract Documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for large, complex projects.
  • Prepares quantity take-offs by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
  • Coordinates communications with customers and engineers.
  • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Solicit subcontractors and suppliers for quotations.
  • Maintains database with current contact information for subcontractors, vendors, or self-perform.
  • Updates the external Company website with current bid information.
  • Supports other department personnel as required.
  • Visits project sites to observe construction methods.
  • Updates skills for software tools and technology utilized.
  • Participates and travels for bid review meetings with internal staff, partners, and owner or owner's representatives, when required.
  • Ensures final proposal submittal is completed on time.
  • Participates in project hand-off meetings.
  • Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values, and goals.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive heavy civil / roadway estimating experience.
  • Ability to use On Screen Takeoff and procurement software such as Bluebeam, Planswift, Smartbid, Openroads, Agtek, P6 or similar.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in HCSS, Heavy Bid.
  • Knowledgeable about internal Cost Systems, Progressing Systems, Level I and II Schedules, Work Breakdown Structures and Project Status Reports.
  • A good attitude and the ability to work with, interact effectively, and get along with all levels of management and employees.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Resourcefulness results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Ability to always maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, dependability.
  • Desire to learn and grow, self-motivated for success.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods.
  • Requires traveling occasionally.
  • Minimum physical exertion, such as walking, lifting, standing for long periods, bending, or reaching, may be required.
  • Requires visual ability to perform tasks: preparing and analyzing data, plans, drawings, outlines, viewing a computer, and extensive reading.
  • Requires the ability to physically operate standard office equipment, i.e., laptop, phone, keyboard, mouse, etc.
