Overview
Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety Consultant in our Tallahassee, FL or Jacksonville, FL office to help us grow our practice, manage client development for process safety, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) projects. You must have an entrepreneurial attitude, and enthusiasm for supporting business development and technical efforts to expand Geosyntec’s market share. This position supports the creation and implementation of new strategies by providing strategic solutions to our clients’ most complex problems. Our client base includes a diverse mix of industrial, institutional, and governmental clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as an Environmental Management practice leader focused on business development of EHS services, with an emphasis on H&S, staff mentorship and growth, and expansion of practice services internally to existing Geosyntec client teams, and externally for newly identified clients.
Lead and deliver process safety projects for clients in industries including, but not limited to, oil & gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing.
Develop and implement PSM programs aligned with OSHA 1910.119 and other global standards as well as indepth knowledge of EPA Risk Management Plan requirements under 40 CFR 68.
Conduct and lead hazard analyses (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
Perform audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
Demonstrated experience supporting reviews of process safety information (PSI) including: Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), cause-and-effect diagrams, control narratives, equipment and chemical information, and existing procedures.
Support mechanical integrity, management of change (MoC), and emergency planning services for clients.
Ability to evaluate contractor safety, safe work practices, operating procedures, training programs, and employee participation for alignment with PSM requirements.
Review and interpretation of pending and new regulations and developing strategies for clients externally, and mentoring and supporting internal Geosyntec team development.
Reviewing and preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals. Including technical and quality reviews of procedures for regulatory completeness, PSI consistency, logic, terminology, P&ID tag accuracy, usability, consequences of deviation, safeguards, utility-loss responses, emergency actions, and potential restart requirements.
Ability to communicate process-safety risk to senior leadership and translate technical findings into practical, risk-based recommendations and implementation strategies.
Providing clients with project management, technical advice and training related to environmental compliance, sustainability, and environmental management systems.
Support in Geosyntec marketing efforts and client business development.
Fieldwork: Up to 30%
Overnight travel: Up to 30%
Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) chemical or environmental engineering. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of experience working in a consulting, manufacturing or industrial environment, with in-depth knowledge of process safety management, principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
Experience managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required)
Experience in development and implementation of comprehensive process safety management programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. (preferred)
Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
Experience with Microsoft Office products. (required)
Ability to make presentations at industrial conferences and at client meetings. (required)
Field work and overnight travel may be required.
Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
