Are you an environmental professional who thrives on building relationships as much as solving complex environmental challenges? WSP is looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Portland, Maine team in a true seller-doer role, where technical expertise, business development, and leadership come together.

From the vibrant coastal city of Portland, you'll work with a talented group of professionals to develop and support clients; helping them navigate environmental challenges, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals while growing a strong portfolio of work and lasting client partnerships.

What You'll Do

Drive Growth & Build Relationships
  • Expand and strengthen client relationships through strategic business development and networking.
  • Leverage your professional network to identify new opportunities, industry trends and clients.
  • Develop proposals and win impactful environmental projects.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on environmental compliance, risk management, and regulatory trends.

Lead Meaningful Environmental Projects
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring quality, budget, and schedule performance.
  • Provide technical leadership in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology, or hydrogeology.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, permitting documents, and environmental deliverables.
  • Guide clients through local, state, and federal environmental permitting processes.

Mentor & Inspire Teams
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and support staff.
  • Mentor and develop early-career professionals.
  • Serve as a senior technical reviewer and subject matter expert within your area of specialization.

Make an Impact
  • Help clients solve complex environmental challenges.
  • Support projects that advance sustainability, resilience, and responsible development.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Professional licensure or certification.
  • 10+ years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Proven success managing projects, developing clients, and winning work.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, including RCRA, CERCLA, and related compliance programs.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP® Certification.
  • Experience supporting sustainability and resiliency initiatives.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • An established professional network and reputation within the environmental consulting industry.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $88,100 - $130,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
