We are looking for a decisive, collaborative technical leader who brings clarity, drives outcomes, anticipates change, and builds high-performing teams while demonstrating integrity and accountability.
In this role, you will lead a Board Support package SW engineering team to meet cost, schedule, and technical performance goals while working alongside top engineers in software, FOGA, hardware, systems design and program management for military products based. You'll have a critical voice from the initial pursuit phase through development, release, and long-term sustainment, ensuring technical excellence while managing cost and schedule.
This position can be based in either Cedar Rapids or El Segundo. Cedar Rapids is the preferred location due to business needs.
What You Will Do - Lead and Develop a High-Performing Engineering Team: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of engineers ranging from entry level to experienced professionals, including hiring, staffing, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Develop Talent and Support Career Growth: Coach employees on professional development, provide regular performance feedback, and support career growth opportunities within Collins Aerospace.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with engineers, engineering leaders, program managers, and shared services to deliver Board Support Package (BSP) software solutions and build strong cross-functional relationships.
- Drive Product Strategy and Engineering Excellence: Lead the development of Board Support Package (BSP) software solutions that meet customer needs while supporting product line strategy and promoting best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Support Business Growth: Participate in pursuit and proposal efforts by providing technical expertise and strategic input to help win new business.
- Manage Staffing and Program Execution: Balance resources across multiple programs to meet schedules and business needs while leveraging earned value management to monitor program performance.
- Ensure Compliance and Continuous Improvement: Maintain compliance with Collins standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while driving process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
- Travel: Up to 10% annually.
Qualifications You Must Have - Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued SECRET security clearance is required prior to start date
- At least 5+ years Experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, task delegation, and cross-functional collaboration in a technical development environment
- Experience in program execution, including bidding, project planning, Earned Value Management (EVM), and risk and opportunity management
- At least 5+ years experience with embedded software development
- Experience with embedded Operating Systems using Linux, Green Hills Integrity, VxWorks, and/or LynxOS
