Job Description:

The Senior Energy Systems Integration Engineer is part of Tangent Energy’s Solar, Energy Storage, and Generator Set business. The primary responsibility of this position is developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Tangent Energy’s monitoring and control systems.


What You Will Do:

  • Planning, engineering, & designing SCADA and communications systems to interface with the Tangent AMP software and 3rd party systems and distributed energy resources (DERs).
  • Design and maintain fleet level SCADA systems that integrate with various ISO’s and utilities required for DER market participation (ISO-NE, PJM, MISO, etc.).
  • Design and implement custom microgrid control sequencing for grid-tied and islanded applications.  
  • Developing communication block diagrams, panel layout drawings, SCADA AC & DC schematics, communication drawings, & network drawings.
  • Developing configurations for Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) - (SEL RTAC, etc.).
  • Developing network device configurations for switches, routers, & firewalls. (Cisco, SEL, etc.).
  • Design and integration of SCADA system network & communication systems (DNP3, Modbus, SEL Protocol, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, UDP) remotely and onsite (if required).
  • Coordinating with relay settings engineers to develop/review communication port settings for protection relays, meters, & other devices.
  • Develop and execute commissioning and testing plans to required for data validation and end-to-end control architecture implementation.
  • Providing technical support to customers and Tangent’s operations center, developing technical documents, user manuals, and operational procedures and participating in project management and project coordination.
  • Assisting engineering with control wiring and control concepts.
  • Working with and managing third party engineering firms to verify all technical information to designs meet project specifications and design requirements.
  • Working in conjunction with Tangent Leadership to develop SCADA design standards.

  • Designs different metrics characterizing different forms of embedded debugging.
  • Implements maintenance strategies depending on the variety of elements in an embedded system.
  • Investigates the role of ML and AI in designing embedded system products.
  • Monitors the trends and continuous growth in embedded systems driven by the Internet of Things.
  • Optimizes embedded systems to reduce the size and cost of the product and increase performance.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
