Position may be located in Baton Rouge, LA or Frederick, MD.

We're looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to contribute technically with a growing team of embedded software engineers in the development of mission-critical software for aerospace applications. This role is approximately 70% hands-on development and 30% laboratory testing, requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to mentor team members, initiate testing, and contribute alongside a high-performing team.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as both an individual contributor and mentor of other embedded software engineers.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Software Engineer to architect and implement embedded software solutions that meet program requirements.
  • Develop embedded software in (primarily) C and other relevant languages as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace and defense software standards, including AS9115, DO-178C for system safety.
  • Manage tasks effectively, monitor and report progress to team leaders and actively adjust priorities to achieve schedule and budget constraints.
  • Perform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and maintain software quality.
  • Coordinate with systems engineers, and hardware teams to ensure software integrates seamlessly into the overall system.
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and career development guidance to embedded software team members.

What You'll Bring

Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded software for defense or aerospace systems.

Preferred
  • Proven experience with AS9115, DO-178C and MIL-STD-882 or safety compliant software/system safety processes.
  • Experience with safety-critical systems development in compliance with MIL-STD-882.
  • Experience with embedded software for System on Chip (SoC) designs including MPSoC and RFSoC.
  • Experience with requirements/compliance management modeling and tools such as DOORs, Visure, etc.
  • Prior hands-on work with aerospace or defense embedded platforms.

Tools You'll Use

Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio, Microsoft Visual Studio Code, Git, Static and Dynamic code analysis tools (LDRA or similar), PLM/PDM systems, ERP/MRP (Deltek Costpoint or similar), MS Office/Teams/SharePoint.

Work Environment & Eligibility

Office and laboratory environment with test facility exposure; ability to occasionally lift up to ~25 lbs; travel ~5-10% for customer meetings or test support.
