Full Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer, Power Systems and Industrial Facilities, Hybrid

As our new Senior Electrical Engineer, you will join Ramboll's multi discipline engineering team delivering industrial manufacturing and water and wastewater projects across the US. You will serve as a technical leader who develops sound, code compliant electrical designs, performs and reviews engineering calculations, and uses power system modeling tools to drive decisions from front end loading through detailed design and construction support.

This role is intentionally centered on engineering judgment and analysis. You will be expected to evaluate alternatives, document assumptions, and guide design outcomes using NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (70E), and relevant Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards, including IEEE 1584 and IEEE 242 as applicable, while partnering with designers and other disciplines to deliver coordinated packages.

Work Arrangement and Travel

This position is hybrid. Two days per week in the office is ideal to support collaboration, mentoring, and interdisciplinary coordination. We are open to remote applicants who demonstrate strong, relevant experience and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, while maintaining reliable communication and responsiveness to project needs.

Travel is expected to be less than 10 percent and will typically be associated with site visits, client coordination, and construction support activities.

Job Description

What You Will Do

You will be accountable for technical quality and for making defensible engineering decisions across the project lifecycle, including feasibility and front end loading studies, detailed design, constructability review, and construction support.

Your Core Responsibilities Will Include
  • Performing and reviewing power system studies such as short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash hazard evaluation, and load flow, using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or equivalent tools, and translating results into practical design direction and deliverables.
  • Developing and checking electrical calculations and design criteria, including equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding and bonding, and protection philosophy, with clear documentation of assumptions and limitations.
  • Applying and interpreting NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards to ensure designs are safe, buildable, and consistent with best practice, including arc flash labeling and mitigation recommendations when applicable.
  • Serving as discipline lead on assigned projects by planning technical tasks, coordinating interfaces with other disciplines, guiding designers, and mentoring early career engineers.
  • Producing and reviewing engineering deliverables such as one line diagrams, grounding plans, power distribution and motor control design, specifications, and technical reports, and supporting proposals and fee estimates when needed.
  • Supporting construction by responding to requests for information, reviewing submittals, participating in site visits, and resolving field issues while maintaining design intent and code compliance.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

We want this to screen for power focused engineers who can own analysis and decisions, without over filtering on drafting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Approximately 8 or more years of experience in electrical engineering for industrial facilities, including power distribution design and the associated calculations and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing and reviewing power system studies, including short circuit, coordination, and arc flash, using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and common IEEE standards used for industrial power systems and arc flash evaluation, with the ability to apply them to real projects.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is strongly preferred, with the expectation that you will pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure on a near term timeline, consistent with project needs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, document engineering reasoning, and collaborate across disciplines and with clients.

Preferred Plus Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more US states, or active progress toward licensure.
  • Experience with additional studies such as harmonics, motor starting, grounding studies, or battery sizing depending on project needs.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD for coordination, review, and light editing, especially in BIM environments, while relying on designers for full production when appropriate.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing, water and wastewater, and related process facilities, including construction phase support.

Why This Role at Ramboll S4I

You will work on technically complex industrial projects and be trusted to make high impact engineering decisions, from early phase system definition through construction support. You will collaborate with multi discipline teams across the US and help strengthen the practice by mentoring engineers, standardizing approaches, and improving quality.
