Senior Electrical Engineer | New York, NY
IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in New York, NY at our Manhattan office. This role leads design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects and supports the delivery of larger, high-complexity projects with limited support from senior staff. You will provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients while overseeing electrical systems in buildings.
You will work within project budgets, assist with training and mentoring, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports general MEP, institutional, and commercial work while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
Technical Path
• Lead electrical-system analysis and develop designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools.
• Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports.
• Gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build client relationships.
• Conduct in-process design reviews and apply quality control processes to electrical designs, calculations, specifications, and correspondence.
• Train, mentor, and motivate staff.
• Provide technical assistance to resolve field issues with limited support from senior staff.
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical engineering best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts.
• Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate electrical-system safety risks.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and participate in project interviews and presentations.

Project Management Path
• Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects of varying size and complexity.
• Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with scopes of work, fee calculations, proposal generation, and contract reviews.
• Create project schedules with milestone and deadline targets.
• Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients.
• Create monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages.
• Ensure designs meet owner, code, and quality-control requirements and that milestone deliverables and construction technical support are completed on time.
• Coordinate design staff and project schedules through design and construction phases.
• Schedule and lead progress meetings and provide meeting documentation.
• Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed or requested.
• Resolve client and construction concerns, manage change orders and approvals, mentor staff, and build client relationships.

• Adept in the technical aspects of one's discipline; advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems

• Demonstrated leadership traits in the Project Management career path
Required for Both Paths
Education and Experience
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
• Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
• Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
• Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
• Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
• Strong training and mentoring skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

• New York corporate/commercial/governmental team focused on complex urban interiors, base-building upgrades, and civic or institutional work.
• Frequent MEPT scopes across Manhattan and Long Island commercial offices, housing, education, healthcare, and public-sector projects.
• Recent work includes 100 Pearl Street - 18th Floor, Commercial, and Bronx River Addition, Housing.
State of New York Salary Range: $130,000-$180,000 per year
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
