Job DescriptionTo support GHD's growth across Canada, we are looking for a
Senior Electrical Engineer - High Voltage to join the Design Delivery Organization in our Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton office.
As a member of the multidiscipline engineering design team, you will work on a broad spectrum of electrical aspects for multiple projects including new installations, upgrades of existing systems, testing, commissioning, and system optimization across multiple areas ranging from transmission and distribution, substations and power generation to solar, hydrogen and other key sectors to our business including transit and water/wastewater facilities.
The successful candidate must have a solid understanding of high voltage and low/medium voltage power distribution design, motor control concepts and functionality, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, detailed design work, construction contract administration and support, and commissioning activities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: - Assist with proposal requests, developing design and construction fees, and proposal/report writing.
- Complete condition assessments for various facilities, including report writing and participation in client meetings.
- Lead technical design teams on large, complex projects as a discipline lead, providing guidance and support to project team members.
- Prepare detailed electrical design drawing packages for projects of varying scale.
- Complete utility interconnection, substation, and overhead pole line designs.
- Design electrical protection and coordination systems, HV/MV and LV power distribution, and motor control systems.
- Design standby power systems, co-generation systems, instrumentation and control, building services, DC systems, and grounding.
- Complete and review electrical design calculations and equipment layouts.
- Prepare contract documentation including specifications, schedules, procurement documents, scope of work, bills of materials, and process narratives.
- Coordinate electrical system designs with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, external consultants, and internal designers/drafters.
- Lead electrical project teams throughout project phases, monitoring schedules, budgets, quality, and deliverables.
- Perform technical reviews, quality control, and professional sealing of design drawings and documents.
- Support tendering and construction activities, including RFIs, shop drawing reviews, site inspections, testing plans, and change order evaluations.
- Lead client meetings, present design options and system functionality, and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat work.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes and standards, identify growth opportunities, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across regions and disciplines to deliver a One GHD approach.
What will you bring to the team: - Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
- 10+ years of experience in the design and implementation of electrical systems including high- and medium-voltage substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation, and grid optimization as well as working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration.
- Licensure in other provinces or jurisdictions considered an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be considered an asset.
- Good working knowledge of Alberta/BC Electrical Safety Code and other relevant industry standards and regulations. Understanding of HV, MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies and electrical system protection theories and applications.
- Experience in leading medium-to-large electrical design teams will be considered an asset.
- Experience in project delivery within a multi-disciplinary engineering/architecture consulting firm is an asset
- Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment.

- Strong understanding of design processes, technical integration, risk management, and quality assurance/quality control systems.
Salary range: $95,783 - $159,638. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
