Job Description:

Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer whose visionary professional will help drive next-generation tracker product innovation, enhancements, features, and improvements. As a thought leader on electrical, electronics, and controls, you will work with all levels of management, engineering, and other departments to create and select technologies and products that will continue to set the standard for the industry. This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Owns final recommendations on electrical aspects of innovation concepts
  • Ensure product evolution and innovation meet customer needs and are in synch with market trends
  • Serve as the expert on industry trends for all aspects of photovoltaic tracking products
  • Create roadmap that is in synch with market needs and ahead of market trends and the competition
  • Develop concepts and preliminary designs for new product improvements
  • Analyze and vet product concepts for customer needs, ease of installation, business cases, manufacturability, reliability, and safety
  • Lead design review process
  • Approve critical design decisions
  • Obtain components/supplies/equipment to support prototype assembly
  • Conduct preliminary OEM vendor assessment/selection
  • Analyze different materials, techniques, manufacturing processes, design tolerances, and other factors in the developmental process
  • Fabricate and tests new designs
  • Select the best product innovation and concept designs to bring into the product line
  • Provide technical leadership for key engineering projects
  • Provide regular updates to management
  • Create and maintain necessary documentation for program success
  • Perform competitive analyses
  • Participate in voice of customer sessions
  • Present new product ideas to customer for feedback
  • Work with customer-facing departments to ensure customer feedback/experience is accounted for in product improvements
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • 6+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • 3+ years design experience with electromechanical, electrical, electronics, and controls systems
  • 3+ years of experience thoroughly and accurately documenting design intent, analysis results, test results, etc.
  • 3+ years hands on computer experience with Microsoft Office, CAD, and ERP
  • 2+ year of electromechanical/electronics production techniques experience
  • 2+ years of experience defining and setting up tests and run experiments quickly


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering
  • Design experience with electromechanical drive assemblies and communications networks
  • Design skills such as FEA, DFA, DFM, design for cost
  • Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks EPDM
  • Background in product development
  • Experience in the solar industry
  • Experience with Stage Gate Product Development processes
  • Excellent communication, organizational, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
  • Experience with utility scale PV plant design & control, and construction and PV Plant DC and AC collection systems
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
  • Expertise with the application of design for reliability
  • Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and inspire others
  • Experience in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to work across multiple organizations in a fast paced, smaller company environment
